Tired of nursing

Nurses Rock

Published

Tired of being a nurse. Hectic days laden with physical and emotional demands. I look forward to clocking out than clocking in. Headaches by 10 am and still 9 hours to go. Attitudes everywhere! High maintenance families, catty coworkers, psych patients, rude and condescending docs puts you in an emotional roller coaster. On the brink of being jaded. But.... I look into my patient's room and remember why I became a nurse. I see a person who needs help, treatment and comfort. So, I turn patients so they don't get sore bottoms because they can't turn themselves. I Feed patients until they are satisfied because they can't feed themselves. Hold my tongue when being cussed because I understand you are either sick, depressed or crazy. Stop caring about my pride and do the work that is not being done because I care that patients get well. To see a patient happy and satisfied is my aim. I am not saying I am a saint but someone has to be. And with what I have to put up with relative to what I can put up with, then I might as well be. I use to smirk at those "nurses are awesome" slogans but guess what, it is true! Nursing is the hardest job you will ever love.

My favourite poem.

Being A Nurse Means…

You will never be bored.

You will always be frustrated.

You will be surrounded by challenges,

So much to do and so little time.

You will carry immense responsibility And limited authority.

You will step into people’s lives

And you will make a difference

Some will bless you,

Some will curse you.

You will see people at their worst

And at their best.

You will never cease to be amazed

At people’s capacity for Love, courage, and endurance.

You will experience resounding triumphs

And devastating failures.

You will cry a lot,

You will laugh a lot,

You will know what it is to be human,

And to be humane.
