NCBON: Is this an Invasion of privacy ?

Nurses Recovery

Published

As of Jan 1, 2011, the North Carolina board of nursing...

Issued this new policy for urine drug screens. Keep in mind, it is not the drug testing or even the observed collections. It is the manner in which the test is performed. Is this done in any other states? Once again, not the observed collections but the way ncbon is dictating the collection procedure. $50.00 to 76.00 that is a 52% increase.

Can you nurses give me all your feedback and how you feel about this procedure?

Is this procedure done in any other states?

What is your procedure, if any?

Can you nurses give me all your feedback and how you feel about this procedure?

Now, i wish i could upload all the forms that were sent to all nurses in the alternative program and the chemical dependency discipline program in north carolina.

Observed collection requirements...

Effective january 1, 2011, all specimens collections for the ncbon participants must be directly observed. Directly observed means that you must personally and directly watch the urine go from the participants body into the collection container.

A participant's failure to comply with these requirements will be consider a refusal to test.

1. The observer must be the same gender as the ncbon participant. (the observer may be a different individual than the person serving as the specimen collector.

2. The observer must enter the restroom or facility where the urination occurs.

3. The observer will instruct the participant to raise his or her shirt, blouse, or dress/skirt, as appropriate, above the waist, just above the navel: andlower clothing and underpants to mid-thigh and to show the observer, by turning around- that the participant is not in possession of a prosthetic or other devices designed to carry urine substitutes.

4. After the observer has determined that the participant does not have such a device, the observer may permit the participant to return clothing to its proper position and then conduct the observed collection.

5. The observer must personally and directly watch the urine pass from the participants body into the collection container.

6. Participants must adhere to all other procedures and guidelines for the chain of custody etc. As outlined in the enrollment packet from firstlab.

Thank you and i look forward to all responses.

Letter from NCBON.pdf

Wow. Sounds super humiliating....and super expensive.

Specializes in ICU, Dialysis.

I went to a local Prime Care office last week for a test. The girl about hit the floor when I told her the tests were $76 a pop. She said they only charge $19 per test and it is the same charge for observed and unobserved. Where the heck does the other $57 go? Gotta love the NCBON.

I was told the same thing from where I test.

I am now working for the collection site where I (did) drug test as a clinical manager, Now I have some real insite!!!!!!!!!!

This all started because some bright bulb got the idea to tape a bag of urine to their stomach and then just unclamp the tube. Once that got figured that out they started casual observations from the doorway and then another bright bulb in guy country started using a fake member. So now they want both visuals on the naughty bits to make sure it's not plastic and on the belly to make sure you're still not pulling some kind of trick.

Sad state of affairs.

oh yes there are some "clever" people! if they would put all that energy into something positive there lives might not be full of lies and deception, the only one they are fooling are themselves. how sad.

The nursing field is still dominated by females (sorry guys)now as a females try doing the procedure per DOT regulation, it is difficult! Then ... have someone bend down to the commade (birds eye view) as you try not to sit on the commade seat, watch you pass your urine, talk about shy bladder.

I personally do not care, they can have DNA, blood, hair and urine at the same time from me.

Being humilated or being humbled?

If they are doing this "DOT guidelines" for the Board of Nursing why are the Pharmacist (in a recovery program) not doing it this way?

Why has the fee increased?

Who is getting the increase difference (money)? Collection site (NOT), boards of nursing? Quest? who?

Can anyone enlighten me and enhance my knowledge base (the business side of me) Looking for some quidence and suggestions?

Looking forward to your responses!!!!!!!!!

the nursingboard does go way to far with that observation policy , I wonder if some those boardmember which came up with such crap would do it .This is too much invasion of privacy the nursingboard really need to get it together , this is ridiciolous
