Hi to all nurses in Recovery. I am an addict in Recovery. My RN license is currently suspended until around mid 2009. I could of fought the suspension but I thought why as I have no family responsibilities and not working would give me an opportunity to focus on Recovery. Currently I attend 12 step support with AA. I am in the process of adding to my Recovery toolbox. I noticed that attorneys have additional support groups besides 12 step groups; it's called The Other Bar. Is there anything out there for healthcare professionals? :typing

Hi, Welcome !! Good idea to focus your energy and time on your recovery. You'll find a lot of great advice and support here.I've heard of a group called, Nurses for Nurses, for recovery support. But I don't know how widespread they are.Where are you from and how much time do you have ?

Thanks for the reply. I am new to this posting thing. I attend a Nurse Support Group in California and will be coming up on a year of sobriety this Feb. The frustrating part of the Nurse Support Group that I attend weekly is that the facilitator sends in regular reports to the BRN. It like most of the nurses are on their best behavior. If you are not working a 12 step program than something is wrong with you and extra heat is put on you. There are many roads in Recovery. I feel like I am being discriminated against because of my anti 12 step thoughts. I take what I can and leave the rest.

Welcome Aden! I am also an RN and have been in recovery since 1999. Congrats on coming up on your first year of sobriety!

I know where you're coming from. Not everyone does well on the 12 step thing. Sometimes you just have to find your own way, and what works best for you. But a lot of the nursing recovery programs force you to do the AA OR NA 12 step thing. So, you have to do it. Do it, or lose your license, right?

Hey! Thanks! Sissie, my mini weinie, is 2 1/2 years old. She is that dapple color, and SO rotten!! My last doggie, a half golden retriever, half cocker spaniel was named Sam. He had to be put to sleep when he was 15, one month before his 16th birthday. Sam had been there with me through thick and thin. That was the hardest decision I had ever been faced with, and couldn't go be with him when they did it. My dh had to go. A bad decision, one I will always regret.

Anyway, I digress. My dh is also an RN and in recovery. We initially met back in the late 80s before I went to nursing school, and he was already supervising at the local hospital. We worked together off and on through the years, and met formally in 1999 when we both got into recovery.

Anne, your Sissie and my Sammie have the same beautiful colors !! He's nine. I'm so sorry about your Sam. We are suckers for cats, too. Sammie shares space with three, one 10 year old calico, one 4 month ocicat and a 4 month old forest kitten. Can you give me your opinion on my post in General discussion"I need a job!",when you get a chance ? I really appreciate it. Thank God !- That the two marbles I have left up in my head are starting to make contact with each other...

Hey! Yes, I was broenhearted to lose Sam, but getting Sissie has really helped me get through it. She is just precious, but she loves her daddy too. We don't have any cats, but we have 2 outside dogs, Shadow and Bea, both who were abandoned ane rescued. We got them from the pound. They are also so special!

I'll find your post in the general discussion ASAP. Hope you have a great night, it's really great to meet you!
