Published

I am starting this thread as a sticky at the request of one of our members, for a place for those that wish to emigrate from the US to work as an RN.

Please feel free to post your concerns and questions about working overseas here.

i have worked in the usa, uk and australia - but i would like to try some more places!

i am fishing for information on agencies abroad which hire english speaking nurses in non english speaking countries

options so far - working as a civilian employee in us military installations - everyone mentions this in spain - but i would have thought there would be options for this kind of employment in other countries as well?

a friend mentioned some english speaking clinics in ski resort towns in france - most major town in the world have english speaking western medicine clinics - has anyone tried working in one of them? or have any information about whether that's feasible?

If not working for a US military base, you will need to go thru the licensing and language exam requirements for the country. For France, it would mean passing their boards in French, as well as passing their language exam. It doesn't matter if your job would be entirely in English, but you need to have a license for that country.

I recently graduated from my RN BSN program and was looking to travel internationally to work. I have an interest in France and I know a bit of french (I know that I'd definitely have to work on my language skills to become fluent), but I also heard that Switzerland paid their RN's generously. Could you tell me anything about job availability in Switzerland and where I would start for the licensing process? Also any advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

You will need to pass the licensing exam for what ever country that you wish to work in, as well as the language exam for that country. Same thing that a foreign nurse would need to do to work in the US, only in reverse.

And you must find an wmployer to sponsor you for a working visa, all told the procedure to get everything done will take you about 18 months to get done. And you definitely need to be fluent in the language of the country.

hi everybody,

im a US nurse looking to move out of US to go to aruba.

i was hoping someone could give me some help or information. i will be moving soon(i live in the US now) to aruba as my fiance will be attending med school. is it possible for me to keep my RN license and work over there? do i need a green card or a visa or both?....and how do i get these things? ive looked at tons of websites and i havent found any answers for myself. they speak english there right? is a 2yr degree accepted over there or do i need a BSN? any and all info would be absolutely wonderful. and if anyone knows how to look up salary info that would be great too!!!

plz plz plz help! thanks a bunch!!

PeddiER.... as far as language, dutch is the official language of Aruba. Though many Arubans speak more than one language such as Papiamento (a mixture of dutch, spanish, and african), Spanish, or English.

ruthiebaby.... could you tell me how you worked in Australia. Did you set everything up by yourself? Did you go through an agency? Did you find you were able to travel to other places from there?

Does anyone know anything about working in the Netherlands? I am an FNP, but would be willing to work as an RN. I am looking for websites or travel companies that could help me get started. My s.o. has an RN job lined up with the OPCW and I would love to follow him but don't want to jump the lake and find no jobs for foreigners!

Does anyone have advice on working in Japan? I'm trying to think of ways to find something in the field.. International school nurses, teaching medical english, etc. I taught English in public school for a year there, and I'd really like to make it back. I know I'd have to learn some more japanese before I could do something really career oriented.

Anyone have an information on working at Landstuhl Army Medical Center Germany? I had heard a rumor that you need your BSN to work as an RN there. Is this true? My husband and I will be PCS'ing to Ramstein Air Base next year. I don't necessarily want to work when I go over there. I want to be a SAHM for a little while. However, I want to keep my optons open.

Also, is there any other facility I could work at as an RN with an ADN in the local area? Thanks in advance.

There is another post about Germany, which states that you need to be registered in Germany by sitting the local exam - in German - and having fluent German language, so the base may be your best chance.

Don't know what PCSing is sorry!

Sorry, the military is so fond of acronyms. It stands for permanent change of station. My husband is active duty Air Force and when he returns from his remote tour to Korea will be going to Germany!

I only know a few words in German so I guess if I wish to work while there it will be at the military hospital.

Ah, thanks for the info! Between military and nursing acronyms, it's a wonder you can speak in full sentences at all!

Hi...I am German/American and hoping to start nursing school next year. (I graduated with my BA in 2005, and knew before I finished that it wasn't what I wanted to do...so I'm hopefully starting work on my Pre-reqs to 2nd degree program in the fall) Anyway, I am planning on moving back to Germany (maybe austria/england/ireland) and would love to know what I need to prepare for in order to work there as a nurse. I am also interested in becoming and NP someday and would like to know how that would translate over there...do you happen to know where that other post was located or where I'd be able to find the info I need??

Thanks!!!
