UK RGN thinking about becoming RN in texas

World Registration

Published

Hi,

I am a UK registered nurse, recently relocated to Texas. I've just received a work visa and recently I've been contemplating becoming an RN here. I have emailed the board of nursing so I know what steps I need to take, I'm just wondering if anyone else here has done this? I'm looking to send off for my course by course professional report first, but then I'm wondering what happens when it says I'm lacking in areas? (namely obstetrics/paeds/psychiatric nursing)

will I need to enrol in school? what would happen next?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Claire

Your transcript needs to show clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult. If you are short then you will have to find a nursing school willing to let you take the required course/s and that is where you may come across with issues. Not many nursing schools allows people just to join to make up courses

Hello Claire,

I'm a UK trained nurse as well. I'm now in Dallas. I've gone through the process with Texas BON and need to retake my NCLEX. I can tell you how this went for me if you want. Let me know. :-)
