hello I just took and passed my nclex rn for New York. I have a job lined up in North Carolina just wondering how to transfer my license there? I haven't gotten my ny license in the mail yet but need to do this asap

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

You need to have an active license (at least listed online with the BoN). Then you endorse (not transfer) your active NY license to NC by applying for a nursing license by endorsement to NC as per instructions on NC BoN website.

Nursing license isn't like your NY driver's license that you surrender when you get your NC driver license. You can keep both nursing licenses, or as many as you want, as long as you meet the individual states' criteria for licensure and are willing to pay for it.

But call the NC BoN and do what they say. Some states want fingerprints (which you will pay for), or a background check (which you will pay for), or some CE on something (which you will pay for), before they will issue you a license in their states. And of course, they'll want the money.

I went through the same thing. I took the NCLEX through Florida, passed, then endorsed my license for Nevada. It didn't take very long. I think it took about 2 weeks. :nurse:

Every state is different. Last time I got CA license it took about 8 weeks. Nebraska took 10 days. :) Ask. No surprises.
