Spanish CNM aspires to get a license in US

Good evening to you all,

It's my first time posting in Allnurses.com after having read some of you topics for quite a long time ;)

I'm graduating as a CNM in my country next year. I'd be interested in getting to know the path i'd need to follow to get the CNM license in the states, and whether this it's possible for a foreign educated CNM.

Congratulations.

The licensing for CNM varies by state. You must contact the Board of Nursing of the particular state that you plan to work in and they can tell you what the requirements are to get approved for a CNM license in that state.

The American College of Nurse Midwives outlines the process for becoming certified in the US:

Foreign Educated Nurse-Midwives

Becoming certified and licensed to work as a midwife in the US may be different depending on which state you want to work.

I've checked out ACNM's website archives and regarding this issue i've come across the following:

" If you’ve decided that you want to practice as a CNM in the U.S. you will first need to take the steps necessary to become a RN in the U.S.

1.Contact your state board of nursing

2.Forward all necessary transcripts to the appropriate agency

3.Arrange to take the NCLEX examination

Once you’ve become an RN in the U.S., you may apply to one of the ACNM accredited nurse-midwifery education programs. "

Please, correct me if i'm wrong but by what i see it seems i'd need to take midwifery education again to get my license. Is it right?
