received ATT in California after 13 months from Graduating from PH

World Registration

Hello everyone, I know many of you are wondering how I was able to do it. But first lets look back at the events leading to this moment. I Graduated last march 2012 and applied to the board of Nursing within days of coming back to the US. the process was slow at first, receiving letters of more documents that needed to be sent in and then finally after 7 months I have received the letter that told me I needed to take MS and OB again!!! I went online looking for answers on allnurses.com however I didn't know there were so many just like me who were in the same dilemma. I was shocked and a little discourage.

so I began at once to call every nursing school in California and only 3 schools were willing to accommodate with hundreds on the waiting list. I knew this was no good. this wasn't acceptable but I just sent in the requirements to be put on the waiting list. I then decided to continue my search outside of California, I wrote to every nursing school accredited by CCNE starting from the west coast working my way to the east coast. I was already in Arizona when I received a reply that gave me some hope but it wasn't meant to be.

I then turned to prayer. my mom gave me a prayer to Saint Theresa and I said it every day for 5 days as instructed before 11 A.M. I followed the prayer asking God to help me. and by the 5th day after lunch time I received a letter from a school (I cannot mention names, or contact information as stated by the terms of agreement).

the letter stated:

Good morning *****, I have been slow in my response as I wanted to make sure I had the correct information. below is a copy of the policy which would allow you to enroll in the classes.

Ob will be offered in this upcoming semester which begins Nov *, there is also a med-surg class the first in a two part series which will be offered beginning Nov *, thus you would need to be prompt in your efforts to contact the office of admissions. (it was already Oct 17), we look forward to your response.

Sincerely

Flower (this isn't her real name but it is a type of flower)

from this point I couldn't believe it. I had already contacted nearly 100 schools and this was the first that gave me hope. I replied as soon as possible asking follow up question after follow up question. she gave me instruction to notify the register for my intent along with the undrergraduate coordinator. everything was going so smoothly. I could not believe it. How come? what was the catch?? but I didn't want to say that I just wanted to enroll. this could be my only chance to. then I had to ask, does it come with clinical components? then I she replied yes.

I was so happy. I made arrangements to meet with the undergrad coordinator and had a private tour of the campus. I could not believe that this was happening to me, so smoothly and I was able to comply with all the requirements needed for enrollment. A week later I moved to ****** and buying my scrubs for clinicals.

the first day of class everyone was welcoming to me and these people are some of the coolest people I know for they welcomed me into their cohort. both classes were difficult but then I knew that I would not waste this opportunity. i'm here to study and to pass. work now, play later...

my stay at ******** university was really a lived experience. I had learned so much here from my clinical instructors and my professors. along the way I made some really good friends that helped me throughout the semester.

after 4 months of school I had done it! I passed both classes and complied with CA-BRN. It took nearly 2 months to receive my eligibility letter and then my ATT. I am now scheduled to take the exam next month.

I am writing this post to give others hope. someone told me to write my experience to give hope to others. So don't give up and remember to keep prayer in mind. it really works.

(A). Did the CA BRN require that you must complete your deficiencies by the 3rd year of your application date OR just show that you are now enrolled in a school that you will complete your deficiencies, those are two different things and depending on which one it is, could hurt your application in that the CA BRN will toss it out and you have to start all over again, meaning new transcripts, etc plus more application fee. Yikes.

(B). You might want to inquire on this other poster's thread whereby all her kababayans went to out-of-state schools too and completed their deficiencies and got their ATT's!! Here's Lyly's link:

Good luck!

SoCalNurse88 state in her first comments that she attended a school in AZ, name undisclosed.

What schools have you contacted so far so that you're not duplicating any CA schools already listed or mentioned in the other two well discussed threads under the "Nurse Registration" tab about "Complying with the deficiencies in CA" and the CA schools subjects? You will have to cruise thru last few pages to find them.

But the long and short is that even if you find one today, there's a good chance of only getting on a waiting list from 2-3 years long. By that time, CA BRN will simply "abandon" your application files.

However, in all honesty, there hasn't been one reported and successful PH applicant to enroll in a deficiency course program in CA and in these forums. Do not count on the CA BRN to care as it's not any part of their responsibility. They give you a list of approved schools and everyone is to fend for themselves.

There was a recent posting that her friend took a CA course maybe in the Bay Area and got his ATT, but the poster has not yet replied as to confirm that.

Hi everyone, I apologize for the disappointment and my misunderstanding but my friends from Southern California all went to out of state universities to take up their deficiencies.

I am so sorry about the inconvenience this may have caused as I did not really update myself clearly with them before I posted that comment.

I hope you can forgive me, I understand all the frustrations you may all be feeling.

As of right now actually I am waiting upon more requirements from my nursing school in order to send to the Ca-BRN.

I can already feel that I am part of this very difficult situation of foreign graduates so as of now I will just keep on the lookout for any school in California that can be of hope for us,

I apologize again and may God Bless us all in this disheartening matter.

I am a PH grad that was denied by the CA BRN several months ago. For some reasons, after a few days of reading the majority of all these topics about the problems we are facing that BOTH of these writers, Lyly and SoCalNurse88, are both being very evasive about the "out-of-state" schools either their friends went to or the individual, as to the names and state of these schools that they claim was able to meet the concurrency courses as required by the CA BRN.

If you read on Lyly's only posting, several members are asking for more information, but she's not replied to them?

My friend and I know that from SoCalNurse88's topic that she was able to take a course in the state of AZ with the head nurse in charge with a name of a "flower". Well, we both took the list of all nursing schools in AZ and could not find a single female person with a "flower" name.

Of course, due to some privacy matter, SoCalNurse88 claims she can't reveal the name of this school? Like if it doesn't exist in the first place.

The other thing is that my analyst told me and another batchmate with a different person at the CA BRN that in order to meet the concurrency, one must have to take an approved course in CA, not out of state!?

Then, in order to get these "approved CA schools" that has the potential of meeting the concurrency, one must give SoCalNurse88 an e-mail to get this "confidential list". To SoCalNurse88, is there a problem that you can't simply post here of that list? It's not like it's probably some new school that's offering them that hasn't been mentioned at least once in the other topics?

I have to agree with a few of the other writers here in this topic that are somewhat confused and simply asking for some answers, but yet, it takes you a while to reply back. Yes, sorry to hear about your rib fracture, hope you do recover soon.

On a way, both Lyly and SoCalNurse88 sound like the same person, sorry to say. Both with somewhat similar situations with the out of state schools, unable to share the state's and names of these schools.

Thank you delacruzdiane22 for that post. I too right off the bat smelled something fishy about socalnurses88's claims. The I can't tell you the school's name was simply too preposterous. Socalnurse88 I hope you correct my perception of you by proving me wrong. I can tell you this though, no real ie. accredited "university" would ask its student to keep its program offering a secret. That simply doesn't happen in real life. The legal implications alone would prevent something like that from happening.

Hi SoCalNurse88,, thank you for putting up your inspiring story here, it gives us hope... Same thing happen to me, i need to take OB and MS due to concurrency issues here in Cali... Right now i am planning to apply in Nevada, but i read that they have a new requirements that you need to obtain a local license... Bu, hopefully you can email me the name of the school where in you take that class... Here is my email [email protected] , thank you :)
