Philippine graduate student to take NCLEX for NY state

World Registration

Published

I graduated BSN in Manila, Philippines back in April 2015. I am a Pennsylvania resident and I'm trying to take the NCLEX for New York State. I don't have a scheduled date yet to take it, and I've yet to send my application to the NYSED. I just have to get it notarized. My CGFNS is complete, and I already took online classes for Infection Control and Child Abuse.

I guess I'm not sure what I'll be waiting for next once I submit the NYSED application. I know I have to apply for Pearson Vue. But I need some kind of ID number from the NYSED?

My question is what are good resources to study for NCLEX?

Is 2 months enough to study for it?

I'm currently pregnant, I'm due on October, is it advisable to take it before or after the baby is born?

Do I need NY hospital experience to be able to do reciprocity for my license to become a Pennsylvania RN license?

I would appreciate any kind of information especially from those who have experience in New York Nursing.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Once NY have your application they will review your file and then give you the OK to register with Pearsonvue. Pearsonvue once they receive your payment and get the OK from NY will issue you your ATT and you can then schedule sitting exam. Process takes on average 1-2 months

If you check under the Student tab you will see the NCLEX forum where you will find plenty of hints and tips

Why go thru all the trouble and paying double applications fees to go from NY to PA when PA is the state that you want to get your first nursing job in PA? This doesn't include the additional wasting of another set of months up to a year or more trying to reciprocate back?

You'll always still have to meet PA's BON requirements with any out of state RN license (unless it's a compact state, I think).

Applicants that do this all the time don't realize how it just doesn't make any financial sense nor amount of wasted and unproductive time it takes to do the reciprocity thing.
