Nursing in Canada + NCLEX

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone, looking for anyone with experience at applying for Registration in Canada as an overseas RN. I obtained my bachelor in Australia & have finished NNAS and been called to sit NCLEX. Does anyone know if that means I meet the criteria to become a RN in Canada?

It's 1200km to my nearest NCLEX testing location... so I don't want to go and pay all that money/ study etc then find out I have to do an additional bridging course (more money/ more study!).

Do you think they have accepted my qualifications as "equivalent" if they have required NCLEX?

Thank you In advance

It depends. But it is likely you have to do the Bridging program. You will not be allowed to work even if you pass the Nclex. You have to go through their own training to qualify to work and manage patients. As far as you are coming from a different country, many nurses that I know had the same situation like you are still here not working as RNs even though they have passed the Nclex. One could be qualified to write the Nclex but not yet qualified to work in the hospital until you finish a program called Evidence of Safe practice, which could be either because you have not been working as RN for 3 years or you just immigrated to Canada from a different country. I mean it is a long process but you can send them an email to find out what they can say to you. Hope this help.

Thank you. It all makes sense- I have sent them an email :)

They usually don't find you eligible to write NCLEX-RN unless you have met the education requirement. What did your NNAS Advisory Report say? Comparable?

Thanks of responding! It was a bit confusing to me... it says that "based on curricular performance at the ETP level, the education this applicant received is COMPARABLE to that of a Canadian". However, this does not denote full comparability for each dimension.

When i look at all the sub-sections... about 75% are comparable and then 25% "Somewhat comparable"

Yes, so you have met the education requirement. Congrats!

Where did you receive your nursing education?
