A newly graduate nurse' questions for the California NCLEX

World Registration

Hi! I'm a newly graduate from a nursing school in the Philippines and also, a US Citizen. I am planning to take the NCLEX in California. I have read some stories here in allnurses.com and decided to ask some of the questions that I have in mind.1. In what i have read in some thread, one problem is that they did not have their theoretical and clinical at the same time. Will it also become a problem to me if our curriculum is a new one where we are simultaneously given the theoretical and clinical in the same semester? 2. I have heard that the NCLEX requires applicants to have 5 DR, NICU and OR (Circulating and scrub) cases. But during our clinical exposure, we were only required to take 3 cases for DR, NICU and OR so now, i'm lacking 2 cases for each. What am I going to do :(3. I'm planning on taking the licensure exam here in the Philippines this May. IF I fail (please let me pass), will it be better for me to go back to California and send my application for NCLEX and wait for the reply mail and see what subjects/units i am required to take to be qualified to take the exam OR take the exam again on December? I just want to see some of my options :)4. What are the requirements for the NCLEX because i checked the www(.)rn(.)ca(.)gov and i got nothing :( THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Replies are much appreciated. =)

hi im planning to take the nclex-rn exam in cali too. i graduated 2009. do i need to go to school again to take the exam?

@ftisland i think were in a same boat right now except i have a a local license from the PHL cause i graduated batch 2013. Did u still apply to the CA BRN? Im in CA right now but im afraid i might just waste time and money applying but my cases are aligned with my MS and OB classes

Hi! I passed the June 2014 Philippine NLE but now in Ca. I am now planning on applying for the NCLEX-PN (LVN) because I also don't want to waste money on applying for the NCLEX-RN and then end up not qualifying for it. Sorry for the late reply. :)

Do you know how long is the process going to take @ftisland

Why not try to apply to California first. Why make the assumption you will be denied. You said your classes/clinical are concurrent, so I'd give it a try first and see what they say. The fee is only $200. You went overseas to study for years, I'm sure you can swing another $200.

Even though your cases are concurrent with your theory, CA BRN would still find a way to make your credentials deficient.

:(

Have you tried applying for ca nclex @moko9204?

Have you tried applying for ca nclex @moko9204?

Yes i did Joash_bueno. :( And, my credentials were deemed deficient. I graduated in the Philippines back in 2012 and licensed there as well. :)

On the other note, I'd agree to 13grad71 to try applying to CA BRN and see what they'll say. Keep your expectations low though. Also, why not try applying to another state? Step out of your comfort zone. I know how you feel. Cali's the greatest state of all. But then, we've been through hell with nursing school. hehe I'm licensed in NY, but I'm still here in Cali. If you want to be closer with your family, try NV, AZ or Texas. Enough with Cali!!! I don't wanna gamble my BSN being stale in the long run. Go for RN! Go for gold. hehehe

Haha yea theres nothing to lose if i apply and i dont mind moving to a different state

Im going to apply for the lvn exam while waiting for mu paperworks for nclex so i could atleast save money if i move to a different state
