new grad RN with fiancee in UK HELP ,nmc registration, work etc

World Registration

Published

Hello all,

im in a predicament that i need to solve..and looking for suggestions. I am engaged to a resident of the UK and i am also a new grad ADN. i am doing my RN to BSN online that has a clinical component..(3 semesters).I was thinking of just staying in the usa and visiting him for one year in order to finish my bsn's clinical aspect and to gain one year experience. i contacted Continental Travel nurse agency and was advised the NMC doesnt give licenses to nurses with under 1 yr experience and a BSN is required. I also was advised certain specialities are needed more than others(but never given a website name to verify those)

I really want to be with him and if i have to wait a year i will. However is there another way? maybe work for private hospital/clinic that dont require an NMC registration? is that possible? Or do i have no other choice but to wait for a nmc license? its not really that i have to work but i want the option thus i am trying to get some ideas on the quickest and best way to improve my situation. Im 30 years old and my fiance lives in London.

thanks!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Currently only one area is mentioned for nurses on the shortage list however if you are able to get residency due to your marriage you will not be affected by the list

Just like to add this also taken from the NMC website

Applicants who meet a minimum threshold but who do not meet the above requirements can address any short fall either by providing additional evidence of pre-requisite programmes undertaken or through completion of post registration practice.

The minimum thresholds which must be met for any consideration to be made are 1000 hours of theory and 1267 hours of clinical practice from their original training. Applications that do not achieve this level will be rejected

All applicants will be required to undertake 20 days Protected Learning Time (PLT) and a programme of supervised practice (ONP) for a minimum of three months.

I would phone the RCN here as well :) they might help as well 0r at least give advice i sent you the phone number :)

Good luck :) keep at it and don't give in :)
