NCLEX-RN California Board passer to transfer to Georgia

Need help. I passed my NCLEX-RN California exam August of 2010. I was given 3 yrs to provide CA BON with SSN but failed. I have since given up hope about working in the US because the 3-year period has elapsed and I fear my file has been destroyed (as stated in the letter sent to me by CA-BON). I'm practicing nursing in Manila, Philippines (3yrs experience).

I was offered a nursing Job in Georgia (signed a contract already). I was not given clear instructions on how to go about obtaining my license. The employer knew about me passing the NCLEX-RN exam in California but not having an active RN license there due to my failure to provide SSN. I've been going through the internet to get guidance on the proper steps to obtain my license, but couldn't find a clear pathway on how to do it.

These are the options I found online: all of which have 1 or 2 (or more) problems that make me wonder whether it's correct or not or.... Not applicable at all..

1. Licensure by endorsement: this is what makes most sense to me, however, I read somewhere here, that licensure by endorsement will not work in my case since I have never been issued a license.

2. Request for transfer of NCLEX-RN test result: send a formal request to CA-BON and ask them to forward my NCLEX-RN result to Geargia BON so Georgia BON can give me my initial US RN license. I also read that I need to submit a new "application" for NXLEX-RN to Georgia. Does this make sense to anyone? A new application entails CGFNS-CES (which costs almost $400); I want to make sure I'm going to fill out the right forms (new application or form for endorsement) because this will cost a lot. We all know how little we make as nurses here in the Philippines. Therefore, every peso counts.

Please help. I was so happy to be offered the job, but now I'm so worried because the first step alone (obtaining the license) makes it seem like my case is hopeless.

Please help me. If anyone out there is having or had the same issue as I have now, please help me out. I would really appreciate any form of feedback.

Thank you so much in advance!!

Remarks: My CV was posted online, and was contacted by local (Philippine) recruitment agency. I was set for telephone interview with someone from Georgia and was offered the Job. The Lawyer (who's going to assist with the visa processing, etc) contacted me after almost a week after the telephone interview and provided me with the contract. Took me a few days to study the contract. Signed it tonight. Sent a scanned copy of the contract to the lawyer. Will be sending the signed physical contract by mail tomorrow.

Hi, I'm also a foreign trained nurse. I lived in CA and applied at the board for taking the NCLEX. After verifying my origin transcripts I needed to take an additional class in pediatrics and got approved to take the NCLEX. I passed last year. I'm in the process of transferring my RN license (active) from CA to GA. I applied at the BON in Ga filled out all the paper for "Licensure by endorsement" Despite that my original transcripts got verified by the BON in CA 5 years ago and I got approved to take the NCLEX and passed - the BON in GA requires the re-verification of my origin transcripts using CGFNS. I started this process 5 month ago and its a nightmare I've never expected.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Moved to the Nurse Registration forum

You need to apply to the state and meet their requirements so if they require CES report you have to get that done and also arrange with CA, for a small fee, to forward your NCLEX results to the new state

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Also to add not sure what visa you are going to move with but currently waiting times for someone from the Philippines on a EB3 is 11 years so be prepared for a long wait at the moment once you get your PD

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

You apply to GA BoN for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. You pay a free for CABRN to forward your NCLEX-RN results to GABoN. You likely need to complete CGFNS CES.

You do not qualify to apply for a license by endorsement as you do not have a US nursing license to endorse.
