How to become a nurse in Singapore?

World Registration

Published

Hi guys any kababayan here who successfully landed in Singapore as a RN? Please share your experience on how to go with the process...This country is getting us poorer...

Hi. I am a new member. I just want to ask if 2000 Singaporean dollars is more than enough to suffice my needs in Singapore. If I can get qualified, I will be funding my basic needs (food, clothing, and shelter). I will be taking SNB this coming Feb 23 (I hope I can pass). In addition, according to one of the testimonials, SNB is easier than NCLEX-RN (correct me if I am wrong). Well, I have taken the NCLEX-RN 2 years ago and i can say it is really way easier than our local board exam here.

Hello Everyone..,

This forum is interesting and insightful. I am writing to get some idea with regards to my issue.

I am a Singapore PR thru my SG wife. I am a male RN from Denmark with years of experience and I would like to get a job as RN in Singapore on a part time or contract basis.

However, to get a job as RN requires to have a Singapore Nursing Board registration. I would appreciate advise from senior/experienced RN in Singapore whether I can submit for RN registration at SNB without Singapore employment first. I am currently working as RN in DK hospital.

Thank you and hope to hear feedback.

Specializes in pediatrics.

I would like to see a reply to TJensen's question. On my research on Singapore, you can work as an RN for up to two years before having to be accredited directly by the SBN. On job postings, there is a category for "Senior staff nurse". Could anyone speak to who can qualify for this position? I am looking at working in Singapore in 2012 while my husband does his expat job based out of Singapore. I am currently practicing pediatrics in a large hospital in the USA. Thanks, Lisa S

Hi every one, I'm a nurse here in the Philippines. I just want to ask all of you here if there is a chance to become a RN in SG if I started to work as an EN.

Filipino Nurses, think about it hundreds of times before you succumb to the temptation of working as a nurse in Singapore. The people in the agency would have a lot of sweet words and very inviting stories to tell, just so you would sign up and pay them money and you can go to Singapore to cry and regret your decision like what happened to our batch. Nobody told us that we will be working like animals and be treated like maids instead of a nurse.

And its not that easy to upgrade yourselves, like studying to upgrade and all that, you need to get recommendations to go and study to upgrade and you will be banded for years in the hospital (means you have to work in the hospital for a certain period of time, example 7 years for studying for 2 years to upgrade yourself because they were paying the course for you.) If you decide to study and pay it yourself, good luck with that, it is very expensive to study there and your salary as a nurse is just enough to cover your accommodation cost, food and bus fares. And if it happens that you have a lot of money to shoulder your own cost to study, I doubt it if you have time to go to school or study your homework after work, because you will feel too tired to even eat after the very tiring work.

So, here is my advice. If you really wanna go and work in Singapore because you don't believe me and you think I am just blabbing my mouth, you can go and taste the bitter pill of it yourself. Just make sure that you have enough money brought with you to pay back the hospital if after a week or two, you realized that you went to hell and you want to bail yourself out. Yes, you need to pay the hospital if you resign without finishing your contract of two years. Terrible, isn't it?

Hi guys, I find this thread very helpful. Just a thought, is this ^^ for real? I mean do they really treat Filipino nurses like that in SG? I went there last July and was in love with the country, people are nice as well, and hoping I could work there, planning on working as EN (because I have less than 3 years of experience as a nurse here in the Phil.) Then if given a chance will upgrade as staff nurse, what are the common/frequently asked questions that employers ask during interviews? Thank you in advance. ?

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and I have just read the thread.

Just would like to ask if anyone of you, or at least have any suggestion on how I can able to work in Singapore not really as an RN but as long as related to my profession since I only had 3 months of volunteer experience in a 266 bed capacity which ended up recently last Aug 6, 2011.

I have my flight schedule in SG this first week of Sept to visit my brother who's also working there but not as an RN. I don't really mind if the salary is not that high, I just want to be with my brother since he's the only family I have and I don't have anymore reasons to go back in the Philippines. I got a tourist visa and might try to apply. Does anyone of you knows a place/hospital/clinic/nursing homes to go to?

Thanks very much! Looking forward on your reply.

Good day everyone. I would like to ask. Do hospitals in Singapore also hire male assistant nurse? Because I checked every agency at work abroad and did not find any job hiring for male assistant nurse in Singapore. Thanks for the reply. ?

Yes there is a chance but a slim chance because you have to work for at least 3-5 years before they want to CONSIDER to send you for RN classes as they need more ENs right now.

This is so true. Even for me a local Singaporean nurse, I can prove her words. It is really sweat and hard work for peanuts. Maybe to some Pinoys the money is good but the living standard is way too high. It is MF tough working in Singapore unless you work in clinics I guess.

Hi, I would like to know how much do you pay for the placement fee/processing if you go through agencies in Manila to apply as assistant nurse/enrolled nurse in Singapore. I am currently here in SG and they prefer Singaporean and pr for any hospital jobs. Yesterday, chnagi gen hospital did a walk interview but I didn't go since it is for patient care assistant and hc assistant. I am already tired applying/giving resumes to hospitals but until now, no calls. Heartbreaking, 2 weeks more to go and my visit pass will expire, huhu please help. I really want to find job(en), I have 2 yrs experience in Saudi and I don't want to go through hc assistant jobs nor pca jobs. What shall I do? If I will visit agencies here, how much do you think it will cost me? Please any info will be so much appreciated. Gb!

Hi I have 1 year and 7 months experience as a registered nurse here in the Philippines... I'm just wondering what's the process of "Enrolled Nurse" will I complete the remaining 1 yr and 3 months as an enrolled nurse in Singapore? or shall I complete the 3 yrs ( enrolled nurse) and take the board exam?

Hello I'm new here.

I hope this helps. I have a 4 and 5 months experience in a 660 bed capacity hospital in Cebu city, Philippines. I just recently applied as a staff nurse in Singapore. What I did was I submitted my credentials in an agency in manila. The qualifications for a staff nurse in Singapore are: 3 years experience as a staff nurse in a 200 bed capacity hospital. There's also an age limit. I think the maximum age is 35. All credentials should be photocopied in an a4 size bond paper and in 2 sets. The agency will actually assist with regards to the requirements for your application.

After sending my credentials the agency contacted me and told me that i have been chosen as a staff nurse applicant in a Singaporean hospital. The agency is very strict with the requirements. You have to bring along with you the original copies of your credentials on the day of the interview. Before the employer interviews you, your credentials will be checked by the agency and then the Singaporean agency as well. After passing the interview, the Singapore nurse board exam follows. In my case, the interview dates was from Sept 25-27 then the exam was at the 28th.

As of now I'm just waiting for the results. Hopefully I will pass. The results usually come out at 2-3 weeks. They actually told us the deployment dates given that we pass the exam and the medical. It will be on January for the first batch and February for the 2nd batch.
