How to become a nurse in Singapore?

World Registration

Hi guys any kababayan here who successfully landed in Singapore as a RN? Please share your experience on how to go with the process...This country is getting us poorer...

Specializes in A&E/ ICU.

I don't know if any one can answer this, I'm a UK university (BSC) grad been working in the USA (so did NCLEX too) for many years, I have 14 years experience in A&E/ ICU, my wife is Chinese, we are looking at moving to Singapore, really need to sit a exam?

Sent my CV too all the hospitals, so far just one reply as a entry level (new grad) sp$ 1600, not sure its even possible to live on that in SG, pretty depressing really.

Anyone know of a Agency that caters for UK/USA nurses in SG ?

Hi! im a fresh grad and thing is its hard to get exp here since every hospital are freeze hiring. anyway i've also tried applying thru agencies and unfortunately 6mos is the min. anything you can suggest. and also you were a nurse assistant before what did you do to become an RN aside from SNB exam. how long did you work as a nurse assistant?

Hi usbrit9,

I think you have to go to the agencies' websites then scan and send your resume. There are many agencies here in the Phil. You can google FLS agency to find their website and it takes 2-3 mos. processing.

Hi Amol,

For foreign nurses they require at least 3 yrs of working experience in a 200-250 bed capacity hospital. For more infos you can contact the Singapore Nursing Board. http://www.snb.gov.sg.

But just to give you some details, before your sister can register for SNB or become licensed here, she needs to find an employer first. This is a pre-requisite. The board will only allow your sister to sit for the exam if she has an employer. and almost every hospitals here require a nurse to have at least 3 yrs of post registration experience before they can employ you.

If your sister does not have the 3 yrs work experience requirement, she can apply as an Enrolled Nurse provided that she has at least 1 year work experience in a 100 bed capacity hospital. After a year or so, if her performance is good, the hospital can let her sit for the SNB-RN exam (upgrading test) so she can work as a full-fledged RN.

I should have read this before posting my question. Thank you so much!

Hello eedo_rn. I also got a job offer as a RN in Singapore. Have you received a reply form SNB already? Have you paid for your exam? I am still waiting for my confirmation to take the exam this July 28 too. I have not received any new until now from SNB.

Hey you! Great! Staff Nurse? Enrolled? Mine's Enrolled Nurse. I have paid for my exam last July 8. The SNB said, they will contact the employer; then it would be my employer who will let me know. I think my exam would be in August.

You applied June? I believe June 25 is the closing date for exams on July. Are you PR/Singaporean? I'm not. It's all a blur to me. The process and all that.

Any idea about the exam? Hey good luck! :nurse: eedo_rn

I have lived in Singapore for many years. I have RN friends from the Philippines who came to work in Singapore as RN in Raffles Hospital to name one. Yes, they are working as RN and not Nurse assistant. Go to Singapore and find out for yourself if information here is barely enough. There are more and more Filipino Medical professionals in Singapore. Hospitals are attentive to hiring foreigners too, specially from Philippines if they have openings for the position.

Hey Eedo_rn, thanks for your reply. I have just received my confirmation letter that I will be taking the exam this coming July 28. I asked my friend to pay for my exam since I am currently in Manila. ? Will be flying to SG on the 27th. By the way, which of the hospitals hired you? ? I am a Filipino citizen... hehehe but will definitely be applying to become a PR ?

I used to work in Singapore general hospital and Singapore national heart center as staff nurse and as a matter of fact some of my batch mates still there working as a staff nurse.

There is an agency in Manila accepting applicants for Singapore/Malaysia hosp. Send me pm if you guys out there are really interested, you may want to give theme a call.

Hi! Can you help me? How can I land a job in Singapore? I'm a fresh graduate here in the Philippines and I don't have any training or experience yet.

I just copied this from another site because it's for every Filipino who wants to work in Singapore hope this helps you!!!

Filipino Nurses, think about it hundreds of times before you succumb to the temptation of working as a nurse in Singapore. The people in the agency would have a lot of sweet words and very inviting stories to tell, just so you would sign up and pay them money and you can go to Singapore to cry and regret your decision like what happened to our batch. Nobody told us that we will be working like animals and be treated like maids instead of a nurse.

And it's not that easy to upgrade yourselves, like studying to upgrade and all that, you need to get recommendations to go and study to upgrade and you will be banded for years in the hospital (means you have to work in the hospital for a certain period of time, example 7 years for studying for 2 years to upgrade yourself because they were paying the course for you.) If you decide to study and pay it yourself, good luck with that, it is very expensive to study there and your salary as a nurse is just enough to cover your accommodation cost, food and bus fares. And if it happens that you have a lot of money to shoulder your own cost to study, I doubt it if you have time to go to school or study your homework after work, because you will feel too tired to even eat after the very tiring work.

So, here is my advice. If you really wanna go and work in Singapore because you don't believe me and you think I am just blabbing my mouth, you can go and taste the bitter pill of it yourself. Just make sure that you have enough money brought with you to pay back the hospital if after a week or two, you realized that you went to hell and you want to bail yourself out. Yes, you need to pay the hospital if you resign without finishing your contract of two years. Terrible, isn't it?
