How Canadian RN can obtain RN license in california ? ? ?

Hi all friends,

I am a regular visitor of this site and love the great support and information being provided by members across the globe. I do have some question hopefully someone can guide and direct me to the right path.

let me give you some info before I ask the question. I am a canadian citizen, received my RPN license in ontario in June 2012 and working in a local hospital in ontario. I am starting my bridging program from RPN to BscN in sept 2012 and also work part time as a RPN. I will be receiving my RN license by June 2015.

My question is after receiving my RN license in ontario ( canada ) how can I obtain a RN license in california? since my most of the family and friends are in california, I really would like to move there.

I am also open to take a part time contract work in USA during my summer break in school, if I can get a LPN license in california or any other state.

Also, on the top I am preparing for MCAT and really would like to get an admission for MD program in USA.( choice of university is Stanford , I love this place ) If I don't get succeed in MCAT, at least I can work as a RN.

My Ultimate goal is to move to california. I still have to stay at least 3 years in ontario to complete my undergrad, with having enough time on my hand I want to start all necessary preparation in advance to move to California.

I recently read that they are changing the canadian rn exam with the nclex starting in 2015. So, by the time your ready to sit the nclex, you have the ability to work in both the Canada and USA (California). Once you have this, you will only have to apply for the license in California since you most likely would have wrote the nclex. You would also have to get a letter from the potential employer as well

The CRNE is being changed into an NCLEX type of exam but the focus will be on Canadian content. It's not meant to be an interchangeable exam that will grant a practice permit in both nations.

Green cards for the US are based country of birth I believe, not actual nationality.

Passing CRNE when in a similar style to NCLEX will not mean you have passed NCLEX. CRNE will be in the same style as NCLEX because NCSBN has won the contract to do the exam however the exam will be aimed at Canada not the US.

At the moment unless you have a US SSN you can not apply to CA for license to be a RN there. They will not accept any application without one. Also many US nurses in CA are struggling to find work so expect the same. You can work if you find a employer, they give you a letter of employment, you pass NCLEX and have visa screen certificate and apply for a TN at the border

LPN will not allow you to live and work in the US as it will not meet work permit or NAFTA requirements
