Complying with CA BON deficient courses

As the title states for the folks that have to take certain courses such as OB, MS or either Psyc, has anyone visited and spoken to any Nursing directors at the approved CA BON Nursing Schools listed on the website?

If so please share us your thoughts on the matter, it would help thousands of Nursing Graduates that received this special requirement that we need to comply with the CA BON before NCLEX examination.

Hi there, @steppybay do you have more information about that CSU Fresno program you mentioned? I'm seriously interested. Or any other schools for that matter that's willing to take IENs in? Has anyone here already enrolled in a school program in Cali to fulfill the deficiencies and had success with that? Thanks.

I don't have any more information on CSU-Fresno other than what I posted or a few others. You might want to google that campus and e-mail the nursing director there.

Good question about others enrolling in those schools offering the deficiency courses, there have been one or two saying they are in SFSU, MSMC or National Univ., someone here has a cousin instructor at Unitek, BUT no one has ever come back to report they are actually truly enrolled.

Not sure, if it means they didn't get in, they are enrolled but too busy to let us know or it's so competitive as it's not only PH students but students from all over the globe, that they are keeping quiet as it's truly a tough decision, as it's between friends and themselves, well, it's every person for themselves. Imagine if one friend gets the one or two open spots, that didn't know it before and that person giving the information is unlucky and not selected.

Thanks steppybay. It's worth a try. What school is MSMC?

i don't get it, why the CA BON is now asking for that deficiency, if that's the case therefore lot of foreign grad who obtain a CA RN license are at risk for revocation because they didn't comply this deficiency before???

Apparently, from what I have read and heard, the whole concurrency issue has been going on for quite some time. And as for those deficient courses, it's another option the CA BRN is giving those applicants whose cases and theory were not concurrent, or if the courses they took didn't fulfill that of California standards. It's really on a case to case basis. As for those who did get a license and have those deficiencies, then there's a possibility that their apps can be reviewed again. Not sure, but it could happen.
Are you referring to the two schools? If so, I have not as I can't afford to pay the expensive tuition at this time.

I'm sure that with over a thousand plus foreign students also going to try to get into these two schools, they could either be a waiting list or the time period to apply has gone by and need to wait for the time the applications are open, once you have fulfilled all the other minimum requirements they are asking for.

I do know that the school in San Francisco (SFSU) not only filled up fast with about over 900 foreign applicants after 1-2 spots, there was not only ones from PH, but from China, India and Russia and I'm sure other countries as well.

Steppybay,

I just called the nursing department in SFSU and mentioned about the MS/OB deficiencies and they said that they offer no such thing to people in our situation. They told me that I'd need to be a full time student enrolled in the whole nursing program to take those courses.

Where did you get that information about those 900 foreign applicants applying for 1-2 spots? Maybe you are reffering to the actual whole BSN program they offer, as that is impacted. Because they made no mention of programs for foreign grads with the 2 deficiencies.

By the way, the MSMU you are referring to... is that Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland? I haven't heard of any MSMU in California.

Also, have you tried University of San Francisco (USF)?

I already tried USF but they don't have those offers for MS and OB.And as far as I know,It's really hard to get in the Universities because they need a lot of requirements such as passing score of IELTS,a strong recommendation from a nursing director,an overall GPA of 3.5 or above etc.An some of them only accepts full time students.

MSMC....is Mt. St. Mary's College in the Los Angeles, CA area.....private school.

USF is also a private college, but very expensive tuition like $35,000 a year or about $50,000 to attend with housing and books!!

But the two nurses I met graduated from there last year and if you're smart and maintain annual high grades, the school pays for each year's tuition. Nice!

Both were hired into their choice of hospitals just before they graduated and got a very nice starting new grad salary:uhoh3: with night shifts pay and weekend differentials, they will make over $100,000 a year!

One of the nurses is a Filipina, she's not only one very smart cookie but looks like a model.

Ok, earlier you wrote MSMU and when I googled it, only MSMU in Maryland came up. Thanks for clarifying that it's not MSMU but instead MSMC.

Thank you for that information.

Are you totally positive that there is no other school out there doing the same thing that CSU Fresno is doing? By you saying we need to come in as a new student... That's another way of saying starting school all over?

Yes unfortunately that is the case.
