CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

It only takes one item to be deficient and the rest of the application is deemed "ineligible". It appears that the OB course(s) was found to be out of compliance with the CA BON standards.

There's a possibility by not giving them your academic calendar (registration cards) could have played a large part in the denial process. They need "everything", if it's not longer in your possession, then, really your back is against the wall, as the proof of burden is upon every applicant.

You can try to "appeal" their decision, but you need to carefully every I's and T's and properly crossed and dotted with pin-point accuracy by getting a copy of your transcripts and checking it out personally to make sure they were in fact, concurrent. Plus you need to make the comparison with your calendar as your way to prove your case.

If you're more than 110% sure, CA BON did make an error, then go ahead and appeal, knowing you're more than positive it was their mistake so that you're not wasting time and getting your hopes up. Good luck!

I just called CA BRN and they said that getting an appeal WOULD BE A WASTE OF MY TIME.

#facepalm!

By the way, I graduated March 2012 and the CA BRN told me that my school sent all of the academic calendars needed to process the application.

Yes, there have been many 2012 PH grads also not being accepted by the CA BON and some have said, that the CHED did change the curriculums in time, but apparently not the case still.

I have heard that the CHED do NOT plan to truly make any changes to meet the concurrency issue till the 2016 year!!

The CHED doesn't have to do a single thing to meet the US minimum standards, as they are only concerned to make sure they can fulfill the country's own needs and wants. Even tho' it's been stated by the CHED, that over 33% of all PH students do head back or want to come to CA after graduation.

It's been said that somewhere along the way (years back), CHED or some entity decided to short-cut the curriculums but instead has hurt us PH students in the long run.

Too many schools, too many students, not enough clinicals to accomodate all the PH students, etc are all part of the problem issues.

Have any of you heard of Lisa's clinical remedy? Do you know if its a viable option to complete the MS&OB requirements? Thanks

Yes, I have heard of Lisa's, but as dragon_lady mentioned, unless they are listed on the CA BRN approved list of schools and college, it's not worth it.

A few of my batchmates checked and the cost is several $1,000's and zero guarantee it meets the CA BON minimum educational requirements.

A lot of nurses here are willing to take their deficiencies, however, there's no guarantee that you'll be eligible after completion of those courses. And another thing, it'll cost you a lot of money. Why waste almost 10 thousand dollars then if it won't work? I haven't heard anymore from those who were also denied in 2011 (I was denied by CA-BRN last 2011 but now I am an LVN as of the moment and still workin' to get to the LVN-RN program instead of just taking my deficiency in MS and OB so that I won't have any problems if I reapply again to the board. Also, it's impossible to find a school that will accommodate you to retake those deficient courses)

As of the moment, no one confirmed that they're enrolled in some MS, OB or psyche classes. The competition in getting in a nursing school is tough so we need to exert more effort. And I hope, one day, CA-BRN will provide school(s) for us to complete our deficiencies. It'll be the best thing that they could do so far instead of keeping us hanging on. So yeah, we need to be more patient and just keep trying, try challenging the LVN boards or apply to other states *if you plan to work in other states* It's really hard though especially after all those efforts then your application will be denied. God Bless everyone.

Are you sure that you can get in to the lvn to RN program? Because I have been asking to some schools in Southern California specifically in inland empire, they won't allow the lvn do that because they will need our transcripts and etc while we have all of that already in California board of RN. And also, actually we can easily get in to any nursing school because we have letter from the board and we just have to do our deficiency in one or two classes. That's the information I got just recently, but please let me know if there is school that will allow us to do lvn to RN program even if our name is already in the California board of RN. Because I will take psych class soon (that's the deficiency for me) and I don't want to take another class again when I am done with psych. Thanks a lot :)

hi csm6709, have you find a school for your psych deficiency?

what school?

i dont see why you cant go to a bridge program, if you are a licensed lvn and took all the pre reqs and go to the legal step to get in a certain school private or not then im pretty sure BON wouldnt mind plus they only asked you to take the deficiencies instead youre taking up everything once again so thats more than what they asked its a win win to them!!!!

Guess what!! Employees from CHED went to Cali last december & arranged a meeting with the board of nursing!

Whatever happened to these meetings, any updates?
