So I get a job offer at a family practice. 2 dollars more than I was making at my previous job. Commute is great just hop in the train, absolutely no driving. I get the job offer on the spot.

Dilemma, I put in multiple applications and have more interviews coming. Some of these interviews are with large hospitals that I would love to work for. Should I take the job offer now? Or do I wait to see if I get a better offer?

I don't want to lose a good thing that i can have now for something I may or may not get, but I would hate to lose the opportunity!

Any comments?

At the hospital, will you have more pay, more Independence, more perks, more freedom, or just more name and red tape? I hate even walking in a hospital so for me they're just overlapping levels of bureaucracy, fluorescent lights, crowds, and sickness. I'd pick the clinic, plus you get to ride on a train. Carry a get home bag.

Yuck public transportation! Ugh the city and crowds. Much rather drive my 150 miles per day in my own private very clean 4 x 4 SUV. However to each his own - lol.

For $2/hr at least for me it wouldn't be worth it.

Can you delay acceptance of this job? Call the first jobs and see where they are at in the job selection process?

I would always wonder about a place that offered me a job on the spot. Maybe it's just my world, but the places that have done that to me had an air of....desperation? Something wasn't right.

They need to do their research. You need to do your research.

Tell them you will consider the offer and get back to them in X days.

Be like Sheldon and have designated bus pants. I've never ridden on a bus...or train.

I take that back. I've ridden the monorail and Disney transportation buses many, many times.

Ive ridden in public transport and i had a decent time. Any way you can save $ on gas and car maintenance is great. As far as the other offers, im in your same position. I will still go on a couple more interviews and see how i feel. And you could even let these other employers know that you are being offerred a position at another place, but you are interested in finding out if they could "top" it, because you really like THEIR organization. And see what they say!

The day I was essentially hired for my present job, having never talked to anyone with that company before, I had just interviewed at a community mental health center. That job was med checks only, a measely 70-80k in reimbursement, bureaucratic, scheduled call, over worked, blah blah blah. I left the interview having told them that I wanted my own panel of patients, evals, more money, etc. The interviewer/doctor said he'd consider it. About three hours later, I got a call from another company, having had a referral from a friend or a friend, and was hired then to make more than twice what community mental health offered as a salary, productivity bonuses, solo practice, and the sole master of my schedule. Best call I ever got. Sometimes holding out works.
