Working for a third party agency that has you managing patients in several facilities involves a lot of running around, I enjoyed a semester working with a preceptor who this. You also get a good variety of patients this way.

I love inpatient because it holds my attention and the patients are really sick. I'm always tooling around the unit, going to the ED and medical floors doing consult liaison. The down side for some people is that it is rarely a M-F 9-5 type thing and there is usually call involved.

How many people do you typically see in a day in an outpatient setting? Do you spend a lot of time writing up your notes after the patient is gone? Thanks!

I try to find jobs where i see patients every 30 minutes. I have seen pts every 15 or 20 minutes. If office is not close to waiting room you are walking a lot to escort patients.

I always do my notes during a session.

My inpatient experiences involve a lot of dictating, writing orders, and meetings so more sedentary.. At least that is how it seems.

Really? I never seem to get up, but then I have the front staff rotate the patients in and out of the office. It keeps them running through more quickly.

Our system is mostly clicking and you can add short notes into each category which saves A LOT of time. It also runs a minute by minute count so if you open the chart when the patient comes in and close it when they leave it shows your billable time if you have that feature activated. When I interned at the VA it was all narrative typing and sloooow. So as far as productivity goes, we try to schedule 25+ (preferably 30) a day, and this is outpatient. I work 4/10s.
