Job market for new grads

Specialties NP

Published

I'm in an ANP program in Miami, and have been hearing from new grads that jobs are not forthcoming. Most I know had to work in the hospitals with MD even when they wanted primary care jobs. Others have been unable to find work all together. Is this in keeping with others' experiences?

Where do people search for jobs? I've looked on indeed.com and advancepracticejobs.com but most seem to be hospital based positions and I'll be an FNP. I want to relocate once I graduate and I'm not sure where to look.

@alisabeth-

What is the difficulty level of the UM NP program? Did you work/have children while in the program? Did you attend the one year of two year?

Thanks!

The UM FNP program is tough. I think they make it that way to ensure their 100% passing rate on the board exam. The first semester is the most difficult and heaviest class workload. I think once you make it through the first semester it's gets much better the last two semesters. The faculty is very supportive, and work with the students. Most students worked part time or per diem as an RN. I would not recommend working full time. If you need to work full time, look into the part time option. I received a full scholarship so I was blessed and did not have to work while in class. I did not have children when I was in the program. Several people did have children, but they were in the part time program. Hope this helps!

Hello Alisabeth,

Please share with me any key information regarding the full scholarship for UM's NP program.

The only way I could consider UM would be to acquire a full scholarship.

Was it a need-based scholarship or a merit-based (academic performance) scholarship?

Thanks.

Full scholarship sounds great to me.:) Please share what you did to get it.

Greygoose, although I am not actively searching for jobs I know I will relocate soon. What I have done is checked on indeed, simplyhired and I also do a blind search in Google about clinics in the city I will be moving to. I click on their websites and go to the career section. This way I know what kind of options are open when I move. Some need experience but as someone once told me even as a new grad you could apply for these experience needed positions. If they don't get other experienced providers or you have a good resume they might consider you and train you. Good luck with the job search
