I am in the same sinking boat as so many other recent NP grads. No one will hire me without experience and I cannot get experience unless someone will hire me. I went through my savings to get this degree and now cannot find a job. I am taking every locus tenens job offered and taking clinical instructor positions though I wanted to to primary care. It is extremely disappointing and disheartening. I am going to lose my house and my children cannot go to college. My grades were good, I passed the boards on the first try and I spend several hours per day trying to find a job. Where are these residency programs anyway? I am about to give up

Sorry to offend. Didn't say that she was doing anything wrong. Just saying sometimes you have to cold call, put yourself out there and keeping on asking. I got interviews because I left a well done CV with anybody that I was qualified to work for within a 50 mile radius. I placed my CV on job boards, I registered with school, I went to NP events. Sometimes you have to be brave enough to put yourself out there. I also work in a metro area, but traveled to rural areas to put leave my CV. I emailed practices.

Yes I also have lived in Texas and I didn't speak Spanish. Made great friends with the online translator service.

I guess what I am saying - don't wait for the ad or the engraved invite. Look for every avenue to get yourself out there.

Specializes in ER.

Great point and I totally agree that sometimes we have to put ourselves out there.

BlueDevil, DNP - Where exactly are you located? Just wondering for future reference.

Specializes in CTICU.

Also plenty of jobs here in Pittsburgh, PA for both FNP and ACNPs.

Charlotte, NC: Carolinas HealthCare System has a NP residency: http://www.carolinashealthcare.org/center-for-advanced-practice-fellowship

I have been told to network and apply to a job, even if it states they want experience. Having a well done resume also helps--if you can, have someone who does hiring as a part of their job look it over.

Just started looking for employment in Durham NC area, so here's to landing a job!

OP, any updates?

Specializes in FNP, ONP.

I don't give that information out, I"d be too easy to identify.

It's easy enough to find our ads, they are in most of the big circulation journals for IM, FM, Peds and specialties we offer.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing, Administration.

I am still an NP student but I am going to go with the group and say you have to be open to relocate. Look on Indeed.com (largest professional database healthcare sites use, I know this since I am a former administrator) and type nurse practitioner in job field and in the location either put the state you live in or leave it blank.. There are literally thousands of jobs. I do not suggest searching by city and state, since it will drastically limit your search. You have to be willing to go where the demand is and there are plenty of places on indeed offering loan foregivness and relocation bonus for NPs. I hope this helps and good luck with the search!
