Senior nurse interview

Hi all I am hoping someone could give me a bit of advice from experience.

I have an interview for a senior nurse post on a paediatric ward. As part of the interview I am to 'discuss how you would deal with an emergency situation that occurred while you were in charge'

This seems like a very wide subject as there are so many emergencies that could potentially occur. Could anyone give advice on how you would approach this please?

Thank you xx

I would think of a specific emergency that might be likely to occur, and then answer how I would deal with it.

Are you in the UK? There are several threads in the UK forum addressing a variety of interviews.

Clinical issues use DRSABCD or whatever algorithm your trust uses. IT, security etc issues just be logical and think about staff and patient safety, following up on the issues that caused the incident would be part of the role of the senior nurse.....involved in the incident investigation and recommendations for changes following up.

Refer back to examples you've already experienced, also as others have said, make sure policies and procedures are followed. Make sure youve escalated the incident to whomever is your senior (I've fell down on this in an interview in the past), think about the needs of the rest of your service and meeting their needs alongside managing the emergency.
