Nasty nurses II

Nurses Relations

I happily completed that admission because I took it as a learning experience. But I knew something was not right when another very experienced nurse came to me and said two of the older nurses were laughing because I was doing their pt's admission. They knew it was theirs to complete but that is how they are; lazy and bully-like. She told me if I don't stand up for myself I will burn out because they will try to do it again and again. I am very hardworking and actually after acting like I dont care I have actually earned respect from that nurse. I do my job to the best of my ability and nurses respect that. I even get called when they need IV's to be inserted. The same nurse that was acting weird and rolling her eyes each time I asked her a question is trying to be nice now. I do not mean to offend the seasoned nurses who actually stand up for what is right but many out there will throw you to the wolves before they answer a simple question. And that is the plain truth. It is human nature.

Dont get me started on the political bureaucracy of Nursing. So many things must change but it seems like a never ending cycle. In the meantime, I'm doing my time (lol) and learning as much as I can in the process.

I thought the title was about nurses that weren't hygienically correct; too bad it is about this...

I don't know "crusty old bats", sounds like they might not be hygienically correct as well as being the other kind of nasty!

I was thinking more of a naughty nurse 2 like the dirty movie lol

having 20 plus years of seniority does put you higher up in the pecking order. I remember my old co-workers and his mastery of union rules, i was amazed at how he could get out of doing work. I mean he was good at doing as little work as possible.

Everyone had met that old timer. Do not try to lie. You know who Im talking about. The person that you know will pawn stuff off onto the on going shift. The one who nit-picks every single thing like did you mop the floor or not. The one who is just waiting for that certain time in their life when they can just retire.

If you have never met this staff member, i guarantee you are lying. There is always this one old timer just biding their time, trying not to get hurt before they can leave their job and collect retirement. It doesn't matter what career field you are in, there is always that guy.

I get where they care coming from, they are comfortable in their position in the pecking order. They got all sorts of aches and pains and don't wanna pull their weight.

I have been the new guy and I hated getting back to back admits. I know what its like to get stuff pawned off on to me because they made the assignments. Best way to deal with it is to stand up for yourself. Show them you are not a door mat.

OK -- there's one older staff member, lazy as all get out and just waiting to retire. Must we bust on ALL older staff members because of this one?

On the other hand, there are also younger nurses who don't pull their weight, refuse admissions, and over-delegate to the PCT's, when they have plenty of time to sit around and talk and text. They'll sit and listen to IVs beep, bed alarms go off, and ignore bathroom requests while older nurses are taking care of the these things. If something was going to make me want to eat my young (which I don't), it would be that. Instead, I teach by example and I sure don't bust on all the younger nurses. Sometimes I read posts from the younger nurses complaining about the older ones, but I wonder how honest their own self assessment is.

Yippee skippy. Another rant against "older nurses."

Don't fret, someone else just started yet another rant against new nurses.

Dang -- I missed the first nasty nurse thread and now I've missed that one, too!

I once at a crusty old bat. It was nasty. That's why I only eat the young and tender ones now.

Natural selection results in crusty old bats evolving with that foul taste precisely in order to discourage predetors. That and their prepetual scowl-face. Young nurses with their yummy-ness and rosy, upbeat glow don't stand a chance in the wild.

I don't want to pick on or rant on a population or age group. We're all a mixed bag of good and bad, and I'm no exception. I was just feeling a bit snarky after reading a lot of rants against older nurses.

Of course we must. Ranting on older nurses is edging out baseball as America's Favorite Pastime.
