UNC Chapel Hill deadline changed for May 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am waiting to hear back for Spring 2010 admission to UNC-Chapel Hill and got an email that there is a new earlier deadline for the May 2010 entry- December 22, 2009. So depressing to already get re-applying info when you haven't heard back yet. Why, oh why is this school not easier to get into?

The email said Spring 2010 applicants would hear toward mid-November. This sounds like an unbelievably short amount of time to accept their offer and line up financial aid. I have been accepted at Duke and have to line up loans for that if Carolina doesn't offer me admission. I hope one month is enough time.

Well I got my letter today...FINALLY! Unfortunately, I wasn't accepted into the program. :nono: I will contact them because I am curious as to why. However, I don't think I will apply again. I will have already started another program and I don't want to switch once I have started. Good luck to the class of 2011!!!

bummer! sorry to hear that. tell you what, tho. stay in contact with all of us, and keep us posted on your progress. if you're on the fb group, or if you continue to post here, i would definitely like to hear of your experiences with your other program. this way, we can share perspectives and network professionally in the future. we'll all be there, together, in the end. :)

definitely contact unc to, at least, find out why you weren't called for this session. it was highly competitive this semester. and the lack of an offer isn't necessarily a reflection of anything you performed poorly on. you never know, you may find out your persistence opens up an opportunity there after all. let'em know you were interested in their international program, too. i imagine a lot of students don't participate, so that alone might encourage a change of heart.

Wake Tech nurses are fantastic! Good luck NYCGyrl!

C2Cnurse I would love to stay in contact to share experiences. I've added some people to my contacts so I will be messaging periodically. You all do the same!

Hello there

Well today I received an acceptance letter...I received my waitlist letter Monday the 16th and got a letter today! This is for the ABSN option...now I have no clue what to do!! I have gone forth with everything at Wake Tech but obviously still deep down inside wanted to get accepted to UNC... duh...but I accepted that I was going to WTCC... knowing that it would be a good program for me! I am at a crossroad. Since I know everything I need to know about WTCC...I am planning on attending the orientation Monday to get more information about UNC...because I have SO many questions... and concerned about choosing the right program! I am scared it might be too fast...not giving enought clinical exp.... that it might be too quick and we don't do enough hands on... I did my CNA...but have NOT worked as one. Does anyone attending the ABSN program work and has exp as CNAs? I will be there Monday, then can make a better decision! I wanted to wear Carolina Blue since I was a young child and visited NC from FL..and loved that little Tarheel. I joined FB goup....maybe I will get more info interacting with you there. THANKS and looking forward to hear back.

congrats nic and to everybody else.

Unfortunately, I did not get in. however, I have a call on Dec 4th with the director to find out why and then I can proceed from there.

Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations, Nic. Go for it. You're also looking at a BSN degree at a great college. I'd go for UNC. But check out the orientation and ask a lot of questions. There will be a lot of people attending just as excited as you, so you might find that UNC is the place for you. This is your opportunity.

Tazluff, sorry about the news. But still stay positive and persistent. After chatting with the director, you may find out you were borderline. If an opening comes up, you might be able to take it. Did you apply to the ABSN or BSN? Please stop back and tell us what they said (if you care to share, that is).

Looks like it was my essays. I didn't "sell" myself on them. Looks like I will be redoing them and resubmitting by Dec 22. Gotta love it!!!

I applied to the BSN program. Now that my prereqs will be done, I have to decide if I want to do the ABSN or BSN program. I have a lot of stuff to do and think about before Dec 22. Good luck to everybody in school that got accepted and good luck to those who didn't but reapplying to Carolina and/or Duke for the next admission.

Taz, is that what they told you? If so, that is truly great feedback! Now you have something to work with... I'm guessing grades and prereqs had nothing to do with it. That's even better. An essay can always be improved. You're in good shape.

So, not knowing what you wrote, I will tell you that you want to get started on editing out any extraneous colloquial information, and keep the good parts. With the three essays I submitted, I created approximately 13 revisions of each one. I would write honestly on the first version. Then edit for clarity. Insert some entertainment value. Then, as tough as it was, had four people read them and provide feedback. Then I made several more edits. The last few were touch ups for sentence flow (I had my girlfriend read everything every step of the way... it was tough some of the criticism, constructive as it was, but helpful). Don't be afraid to share them with friends and family. You don't need to follow everyone's advice or critique, but it's important to solicit their "honest" impression... no holding back. You decide, then, what works for you.

Honestly, if it's just the essays, I'm glad to hear that's all it was. The essays are the simplest to address. Keep us posted, Taz. We'll be holding a place for you at the study group in Tarheel country.

That's all that it was. She said academically and volunteer work, I am strong but i didn't do enough for the essays. Atleast with the essays, I can still reapply for May and not HAVE to take another class. I have a little bit of work to do before Dec 22 - gotta rework my essays and finish up my last prereq.

Good luck to everybody at UNC! Hope to see y'all shortly.

Did you guys all send in your high school transcripts? It says on the application to send it in if you have not been accepted to UNC before. Seems a little weird since I already have a BA.

Am I just reading it wrong?

No, I think it's a protocol thing...I have a BS and had to send mine in too.
