Moving from Florida
- 0Apr 29, '10 by HOTC NurseHi everyone,
I'm new to the site. I'm thinking of relocating to North Carolina. I have a Florida license. How can I go about it with NC BON? Where are the good places to live and work. Thank you.

Be aware that NC does not have anything resembling a nursing shortage -- we did not have a shortage before the economy tanked, the same factors that have driven nurses back into the workforce everywhere else have also happened here, and we have lots of nursing schools cranking out waves of new grads every year. Plus, people keep moving here from other states. So, don't expect it to be easy to find a job. I encourage you to start looking and have a job lined up before you actually move here.
"Good" places to live depend on what you like. We have urban areas, beaches, rural areas, mountains, pretty much some of everything (except desert!)
Best wishes.Last edit by elkpark on Apr 29, '10
- 0May 3, '10 by NC Girl BSNI agree with the above poster. NC is awesome place to live ask any Northerner! We have 16 state supported universities a few are that are nationally known.(DUKE,UNC) Tons of community college and the cost of living is decent. I work at Wakemed in Raleigh. Today they only have about 38 nursing jobs and 2 new grad jobs. During orientation last year. The HR told us that Wake med recieves 2000-3000 applications a WEEK. She said they recieved a total of 98,000 applications in 2009. She told us that we are very fortunate to be there. I have to agree. I would get a job and then move.
