Hello, just wondering if nurses in nc,particularly in raleigh and fayetteville are having difficulty finding jobs, esp in hsopitals, like they are in some states due to the economy?

I have been talking to a nurse recruiter at Cape Fear for about a month and so far not an interview yet. I keep on calling and I almost feel like she wants to tell me to stop calling. So as a result, I would say there is probably not a nursing shortage in Fayett......at least for new grads...

I always wondered where all the Fayetteville new grads went to work at, since there are so many schools but not so many hospitals (I can only think of 4 off the top of my head). Perhaps they move on to over cities/states.

I live in Winston-Salem, NC and am going to graduate next Feb. and already have accepted an offer to work at Baptist Hospital. Both Baptist and Forsyth (the local hospitals) offered either bonuses or scholarships for signing on as well. In Greenville, NC a family member was offered $5000 to join Pitt Hospital and $15,000 to work in New Bern, NC. Based on that info I wouldn't imagine that there would be a surplus. Sorry I don't know more about Fayetteville though.

I know in the Raleigh area there is a shortage of jobs for newgrad positions. There are so many schools in the area that are turning out new nurses. I think the smaller hospitals are willing to take newgrads in and train them but the bigger hospitals are being more selective. You have to get in the game and market yourself. I think the shortage depends on region. I live in Clayton and just got my RN weeks ago. I was a LPN for almost 18 months and I got 3 job offers at 3 different hospitals. I also was a CNA for 15 years and have a BS degree in a health related field. I am sure alot of this worked in my favor and I am not sure if I would have gotten these jobs without it. I also interview well so that counts for something. Good Luck in finding a job. Its tough out there but I think NC has plenty of jobs that need to be filled unfortunatley most of the positions require 1 yr of experience.
