Duke ABSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

Let me know :)

Just submitted my application yesterday! I'm so excited! Now the waiting game begins ahhhh! Best of luck to everyone finishing up their applications!

Congratulations VandyMeg!

Less than two weeks until the deadline, so hopfully less than a month until we find out about interviews.

Hi,

evaamber - Welcome! What kind of things did you do in Peru? I did a health care program in Ecuador and loved it. I wish I had been able to travel to Peru when I was down there.

VandyMeg - congrats! I wish I could say that. I'm close, but will be wrapping things up over Thanksgiving.

Hi there OakTown.

I was in the Peace Corps in the Community Health Program. I mostly worked in basic nutrition and sanitation. My community was quite rural so instead of having a health post to work with like some of the volunteers in bigger cities I got to do some neat hands on projects such as building cooking stoves and planting gardens and teaching Physical fitness classes. Different from what I thought it would be like (isn't everything) but extremely fun and rewarding.

Duke is really interesting me because of the Spanish Language component and the opportunity for more world health experiences.

What did you do in Ecuador? I love to talk about Latin America!

Good thing I did Peace Corps with my husband because it means I get to chat about it constantly without driving all of my friends and family crazy. :)

Hi all,

Does it say complete next to any of your references that were submitted online? Mine all have a started time, but none of them say complete. Just wondering if that is a system thing or if none of mine have been finished....

Finally got my part submitted and so now begins the waiting period. Don't like this part!

Anyone else finishing up pre-requisites?

Yes the status will say when the recommendations were started and when they were submitted. I would contact your recommenders!

I have also heard that your references don't have to be complete by the deadline, but I would contact M to make sure.

And I agree, the waiting is painful. :uhoh3:

Thanks murph1009 and hlr9433! I contacted my reference again and hopefully he just needs to hit submit or something easy. He finished another one, so it seemed odd that this one isn't finished. I will contact M just in case as well.

Hi!

I submitted my application Friday night and anxiously awaiting to hear word.

I am wrapping up 2 pre-reqs (A&P 1 and Soc) and have signed up for my last for the spring (A&P 2). It would be terrible to not get in and yet still be taking a pre-req. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there :)

Think Positive Everyone!

Hi!

Sorry for the belated reply! Other than my own L&D and female health experiences, I don't have any experience with women's health. It's definitely going to be new for me. I am keeping an open mind though, because every time a read a new journal article or study, there is always some aspect that interests me. Be it neurology or orthopedics!

So, everyone....the deadline is tomorrow and I'm so excited! I have the A&P prerequisites to finish, but luckily they're offered online through my local (NC) community college and I won't have to spend a rediculous amount of money to get it taken care of. Anyway, the DUSON application site has been moving slowly for me the past couple of days...I guess a boatload of people don't submit until the 11th hour. I'm praying that all goes well for each of us! We've done our part, so we just have to have faith that Duke will recognize our potential and give us a shot!

I JUST submitted my application! So excited. And to anyone who is waiting until the last minute too... yes the site had been very slow. If needed, you may have to log out and log back in a few times, I know I had to do that in order to upload my personal statement. Speaking of which... how long was everyones? Mine was almost 4 full pages single spaced, I hope that isn't too long, I just had a lot to say! Can't wait to hear about interviews, should be just a few weeks from what I've read. Good luck to all!
