Duke ABSN Fall 2011

Published

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

Let me know :)

I'm really sad that I won't be joining you all. It turns out that some references weren't received and so my application wasn't considered. Duke was my first choice so I've been pretty bummed. I will apply for spring but it feels like I have already been waiting for ever. Best of luck with the interviews and I'll of course be following you guys on this thread!

Oaktown,

I'm sorry to hear that but I will be pulling for you! Believe me, I understand your anguish because I didn't think that some of my materials would make it on time and I almost gave up hope that things would work out for me too. But good things come to those who wait (and remain proactive) :) I'm blessed to have the opportunity to interview, but I also know that I can still get a "no" in the end. I am prepared for that (although I hope for the best), and I just look at my "no"s and "not nows." Keep in touch!

Hi all-

I unfortunately did not get the email I was hoping for yesterday. Was wondering if those of you who did get an interview would mind sharing some of your stats. I must say I was a bit surprised that I didn't make the cut, considering my scores were well above the average of the last several accepted cohorts. Just trying to figure out where I went wrong.

Thanks so much and congrats to everyone who made it to the next round.

Hey Sbl29 - I just sent you a PM, but I wanted to also ask if you had called Duke and made sure there wasn't a mistake. If your stats were up there, it seems like you should've gotten an automatic interview. If it were me I was absolutely call!

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and so happy to find this thread. I received an invitation to interview at Duke on Friday. Words can't express how excited and relieved I am to get past this first hurdle. Congratulations to everyone else!!! Does anyone know how many people they're interviewing? If not, I'll send an email to admissions on Monday.

hi marann,

congratulations on getting past the first stage! i'm still floating on a cloud because for a minute there i was concerned that things were not going to work out in my favor. i don't know how many people have applied to the program, but based on past threads i'm thinking it's 200+. did you get a chance to email them and hear something back yet. have you decided on an interview date? are you local or will you have to travel? anyway, nice "meeting" you :)

hi sbl29,

i'm sorry that you didn't have good news waiting for you last week. if i were you i would definitely dig deeper for the reasons why you were denied. in the beginning of last week i had an issue with my package, but i made sure to contact my previous university (repeatedly) to make sure the issue was fixed so that i could still be considered. mistakes can and do occur sometimes, you know. as far as my grades, i graduated undergrad magna cum laude and because of that i didn't submit gre scores. however, my impression of duke is that qualitative attributes are just as important as the quantitative measures. duke = diversity, and i don't think they only accept students who have perfect scores. believe me, i am far from perfect...

Hey everyone!

I know we're still coming down from the high of being invited to the interview, but have any of you began thinking of the financial side of the school process? I know I am because I am already carrying undergrad debt, and I want to maximize scholarship resources as much as possible! Anyway, I was browsing the net and came across this link http://noedb.org/library/features/101-little-known-scholarships-for-nurses I'm going to check it out and see what these scholarships are about, and if any of you find anything interesting, please share :)

hi aspire2inspire,

thanks! i just sent off an email to duke about the application pool and booked my flights for the interview. i decided to interview on jan. 28th. i currently live in san francisco, but will be traveling from ny for the interview. i'm from ny and had already planned a trip home for the end of january so it actually works out well that the interview is on the 28th. i only have to fly across the country once! what day are you interviewing?

I just received a response from the admissions department about the applicant pool. 420 people applied for Fall 2011 and 160 people received interviews. So many more applicants than previous years. I wonder if they'll admit more students.

Thanks for the info Marann. I guess they didn't do automatic interview qualifiers this go-round? I'm glad I didn't have this information when we were waiting for interview invitations or I would have been even more nervous.

I asked if my husband could attend Duke Days with me and they said yes if anyone else wanted to bring a guest. I was told more info would be coming over the next few weeks. I already booked my flight and hotel!

Hi evaamber,

Which hotel are you staying at? I still need to book mine. I want to be close to campus.
