Anyone applying to ABSN at WSSU for Jan 2012

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to know who all is planning on applying to the accelerated program at Winston Salem State starting in Jan 2012. I'm taking my pre reqs now and if anyone that has graduated or currently in the program has any tips that would be wonderful.

Thanks,

David

I just checked the mail and I didn't receive a letter today. Maybe tomorrow? One of my friend's called today and they told them that no emails were sent out. I'm not surprised though. Ever since I submitted my regular application earlier this year I've had tons of problems with them. The classes and teachers are great but the administration is THE WORST.

I'm starting to see the disorganization that everyone warned me about...still nothing here good or bad. If I didn't get in, I at least want a letter saying Sorry you didn't get in. This is getting ridiculous.

I received my acceptance packet this evening :nurse: Good luck to everyone!

Hi Monster41,

what did the package entail, am still waiting for mine. Did it specify on books, financila aid etc.

Pls just give me a gist of it.

thanks

- Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening Information

- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholarship Application

- Orientation Schedule

- Course Schedule

- Direct Deposit Form

- Info about Nursing Scholarship Programs

Also, it says that WFBH will notify us to schedule an interview. There is a reminder to apply to WSSU if you haven't already done so. I didn't read anything about books.

thanks alot. l hope to receive my package tomorrow.

Hi, My name is Haley and I applied to the ABSN program at WSSU for Jan.2012. Just a little bit about myself, I graduated in '08 with a BS in Biological Anthropology from The George Washington University with a 2.97. Not my finest moments in academia, but I did grow personally at that time. I have all As in the pre-reqs except Chemistry, with a C. It was a summer class and I will never again work full time and take a hard science over the summer. It was terrible. Anyone else commuting from Charlotte if they are accepted?

Anyways, I know we are all hoping to get in and I wish everyone good luck!

Monster, did you have anything else apart from these credentials to get accepted?

Congratulation, anyway.:yeah:

hi all..was reading some of the posts and just wanted to give my insight onto the application process, since this is my second year applying and know a little about what these anxious few weeks awaite.

just to give you an idea i applied last year after finishing my b.s. in biology at uncw. i graduated with right at a 3.0 . my pre-reqs were all a's except statistics and micro in which i received a c in each class. unfortuantely i did not get admitted into the program last year and they said it was because of the fact i was still enrolled in dev. psy. he went on to tell me that the past three years an average of 200 people applied and the applicants are put into either top-priority status or not top-priority. the become "top-priority"status your academic record should portray that you have completed all the pre-reqs and meet the min. gpa (i do believe that there might be exceptions if one exhibits an extremly high gpa, since i meet a girl who got accepted after still being enrolled in a prereq, but she also had a 3.8). now just because you have all the pre-reqs done and meet the min. gpa doesn't mean you will automatically be accepted but you will be put in top priority. only thing is there might be 75 other people that are top-priority as well, in which then the selection process is based on gpa.

as for when we will hear something, i got my letter last year on oct. 1st and know that other people heard the first week of october. i hope this helps and good luck everyone!

will someone good in statistics explain the acceptance criteria to us especially when there are applicants with a 3.89 gpa and all a's in the pre-requisites who did not get accepted. no offence to anybody, just trying to understand so that i get better equipped for next time around.

Interestedinabsn,

To be honest I dont know if there is an exact formula to getting admitted....I applied last year and after not getting in I moved from Wilmington to Winston Salem to work at Baptist as a CNA to get experience. During the past 8 months of working there I have come into contact with many WSSU nursing students doing their clinicals.. Of the students I talked to I was suprised with the amount of people who applied to the ABSN program, didnt get in and went into the traditional program. I tried to ask each one their stats (gpa, prereqs, etc.) and I was again suprised to find out that multiple students had 3.4's 3.5's & mostly A's in prereqs. So going into this application process I was pretty bummed b/c I thought that my 3.0 would not hold up. I don't know if it is easier to get in since I am a male, the fact this is my second time applying, & I already work at Baptist..but really I dont know if they look at any of that. Interestedinabsn what was your major? Did you complete all your prereqs? I know they look favorable upon science majors & people who have completed their prereqs...but to be honest I dont think anyone knows how they select each class..have you called and spoke with Cecil Holland? I know last year the letter I got had his direct number on it so you can speak w. him to get a better idea. Hope this helps :\

thanks tkp3321.

I work at Baptist too....have been for the past 6 years....didn't help me, haha.
