Hi!

We just had a fews samples of in line suction and the hospital is thinking to buy it for continuous use, but i think that our experience is not enough, so i would like to know what´s your experience using them...

Thank you

what pressure do you use for in line suction and how do you test it?

I think ours is the Ballard. We use them on anything >1 kg. We do have a few on

We use inlines for all HFOV kids and can request an order for it on conventional vented kids if they have tons of secretions or don't do well with suctioning/bagging. While it is a recently new policy in my unit that all suctioning "should" be two man, on orientation we were taught to one man suction and bag, we have a large, private room unit and sometimes there just isnt the time to run out of your room, find someone who is free and have them run in and suction with you, you have to be ready to do it on your own. We have a relatively low VAP instance as well, in fact I have taken care of very few babies with respiratory infections at all related to being intubated

I love in-line suctioning, esp. since its a closed-system process!! I have been in the NICU at my facility for 2 years and that's all that I have used.

We use the Ballard in-line suctioning system in our unit too. We have had the system for quite a number of years now and have had no problems. I think the Ballard is great.

Love love love the Ballard. In addition to the positive things mentioned by others, you are saving a lot of cost and waste in sterile single use suctioning supplies. I have not experienced the Ballard putting tension on the tubing at all. I don't know how you all took care of the big heart kids in CHF who need to be suctioned like constantly before in-line suctioning. I'm always sad that trached kids who aren't vented or on CPAP can't use the Ballard since it is so much more time and work to suction sterile-ly.
