Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

Oh man, I just found out that the applications are due on October 17. That doesn't leave a lot of time to get recommendation letters (despite that fact that I let people know that I'd need them by September back in June :/) How is everyone doing in the application process??!

I am not surprised they advanced the deadline from last year. Every year they get more applications from the previous year. They probably want to avoid the delay in decisions that happened earlier this year. The wait was kind of grueling.

Weren't decisions given out by February last year? That is quite a long time to have had to wait!

I am really disappointed, because I got an unofficial transcript from Boston University, and I received a B- in Biology 103. I also don't think it had a lab component. All in all, my GPA is "just okay" despite graduating cum laude and with having made the Dean's list every semester I was at Stony Brook.

I was going to only apply to SBU, but it looks like I'll also be applying to SUNY Downstate. What really stinks is the fact that my husband and I are close to purchasing a condo out in Suffolk, so commuting to Brooklyn would be grueling, but I guess if that's what it takes.

I am really hoping that my letters, statement, and experience in the field/my internship help me get in, since my grades simply aren't the best. I feel disappointed already :(

I have not heard many good things about Downstate, one of the reasons that I did not apply there (let alone the fact that they explicitly stated that they give preference to NY residents for admission and I was applying from out of state). Like I said before, there is at least one person in my class with one C in prereqs, and I would not be surprised if there were more students like that. This one student was the only one that owned up to it. Clearly, the essays and recommendation letters are the key to winning admissions over. You will never know unless you try! Don't give up hope in getting in before you even start applying! Unless you are still taking prereqs, your grades are a done deal ... your essay and recommendation letters (people you choose to write them) are not. I hope you already ordered transcripts ... don't sit on those requests. I had a frantic last minute rush for one of them last year, my request was lost by the sending school :(

I got my decision letter this year on Feb 15, and quite a few of my classmates got in from waitlist (3 of them got called on orientation day). Unfortunately, nothing can be done about the wait, you just have to do a lot of praying! :D

BTW, I did not graduate cum laude in my first bachelors ... so don't fret about that! I hope however for a different ending for my BSN!

I am going through the application process as well.. I honestly dont feel too comfortable with the last question from the personal statement. I dont really know how to interpret it and therefore i feel like I am BSing too much of it and i dont want that. Good luck everyone!

I do have a question though, where are we supposed to get the transcripts sent?

Lol never mind, just found it :p

Which are schools are you guys applying to?

I'm really surprised more people aren't applying?? I guess that's good for us!

Are you kidding? Almost 700 students applied last year for 64 seats! I am pretty sure it will be more this time around - every year it increases. Not many people think of looking for this thread online. Barely 1/3 of my class even knew about this website. Just under 1/2 of them did not even know about the Facebook group created thereafter.

Sorry to kill your buzz, but the upward trends are reality! :clown: Take it as motivation to put your best foot forward!

I... I was just kidding about no one posting in the thread... I thought that was pretty obvious.
