NYU, LIU and other Private Nursing colleges

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello guys,

Is there anyone here who attends Long Island University, New York University or any other private college within the tri-state area for Nursing? How is it? I got accepted to NYU's program and I know it won't be a problem getting into LIU's program but the cost is scary and then not knowing how the professor are at these colleges.

Is there anyone here in LIU or NYU's program?

Is there anyone who's ever been?

Know someone who is or was?

What should I do?

Thanks guys

Hello!

I'm currently at NYU's school of nursing. Overall, I think my program is very good, both clinicals and lectures. I have been in the program for the past two semester and I have learn so much. As for the professor, there are some excellent one and some horrible one (just like any other school). Just as long as you do your required work, it shouldn't be a problem. So far, I'm doing just fine with my classes. I don't know about other schools but NYU required a passing grade of B- for all nursing classes and when you're taking 2 clinicals simultaneously in the same semester, you must maintain an overall B average.

Good luck!

Sammi that sounds promising,

Can you take clinicals together with regular courses you may need before graduation or do you have to take them all first before you start the clinical phase. Kinda like pre-reqs

Cheers

Which nursing program track are you in? Traditional, transfer, or 15-months accelerated program?

I will be transfering with credits from numerous colleges (BMCC) (Laguardia Community) etc.

NYU is very strict when it comes to clinical which mean you will not be allow to take any clinical until you finish all the pre-qu. On the other hand, you are allow to take some nuring classes such as nursing research and health assessment without fulfilling all the required pre-qu.

Good luck!

Thank you Sammi15...I will check it out and keep everyone posted.

I am a graduate of LUI's RN to BSN program. LIU has gone thru many changes since I was first a studen in 1964. Then it was a good program for basic students. It went downhill a bit, then it went back up hill, then back down. It is presently on an uphill swing. I would go to NYU if I had had the money to pay for it. LIU has always been somewhat classified as a second class school.

thanks for the response grandma ;)

that's the thing i don't have the doe, i'll have to get loans.. something i never ever wanted to do i graduated with an a.a.s in programming in 2003 and since then i've been taking pre-reqs slowly but surely for different school with much disappointment. nyu have accepted me but i'm just scared.. because of cost and completion.

You should also look into Pace, Columbia, and NYIT. Also there are states schools like SUNY that has Nursing schools.

Honestly, if I was you, I would go to NYU. Its very hard already to get into nursing school, so if you have a chance, dont prolong it. I would take the loans out and when you graduate, just have the hospital pay for it (sign on bonus) or work for the government that is also paying sign on bonuses, or you can have certain amounts of your loans waived if you work at certain hospitals.

Good Luck :)

Hi,

I am replying to Perdue725 reply about NYIT. All the other schools are accredited but NYIT is not. I had applied there and started taking classes. I knew right after my BSN, I wanted to go into a NP program. Since they are not accredited, no other school would take me and I would have to do a BSN program all over again. If you do not plan on going on to further your education, you can do that program and still sit for the NCLEX exam. I believe as long as you have the NCLEX license you can work. I found out that this program was not accredited last year. I started in the spring of 05 and left 2 weeks after school started. The director of the nursing program told me that she was not sure when they will become accredited. You can check to find out if they have started the process or not.

Good Luck,

LIU isn't a second class school. LIU is actually #1 in New York State for students passing the state board examination (NCLEX). So decide what's more important. Going to NYU or going to the #1 nursing school in New York State. At least you know you'll be prepared for the NCLEX, which is all that really matters. What good is going to a school like NYU if they can't even get you to pass the boards?
