NYP New Grad Meet and Greet Nov. 24th

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi everyone! I signed up for New York-Presbyterian's new grad meet and greet event scheduled for next week, Nov. 24th, and I have just received a confirmation email to inform me what time I'm scheduled to meet them. I know in previous meet and greet, people would receive a nurse battery test after the interview if they passed. For this meet and greet, they send you the career battery test after you've registered for the event. I thought maybe it's because they want to wean out some applicants before the meet and greet. My question is, did I pass this career battery test and that's why I'm able to attend this meet and greet, or is it really just a confirmation email stating that I can attend the event? I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking about this too. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey newnurse525, from what I've heard these events are usually packed. My friend went to the December meet and greet and she told me that more than 500 student nurses were there. I don't think it's worth if I'm being honest because there are so many nursing students within new york city already that actually have clinical experience at NYP, volunteer there or even work there already on top of other students from the tri-state area. My suggestion would be to try to find a job within the state you're in that can possibly offer a new graduate nurse residency program, get some experience and then apply for jobs at NYP once you feel more confident as a nurse.

Thats my plan! Thanks for the input :)

My experience ....just attended the new graduate career event on 04/28 and it was a complete waste of time as mentioned here previously before. This time they only had one room with 6 tables. Each table had a specialty, the specialty I'm interesting in which is psych wasn't even there😒😫😫. So you have about 4 minutes to visit each table sell yourself. Then they rush you out and that was all. No goodies, no extra video , no nothing , I was in shock on how disorganized things were. I fell disrespected and belittled to be honest. When your talking to them they just stare at you and say thank you for coming. I believe they do this just to say they give new grad opportunities but at the end they always hire in house first. Basically them hiring a new grad is a lotto ticket. Unless that person has connections , etc. NYP is not that serious , if this is your first impression I don't think I want to be a part of this type of environment ✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾 oh and @newnurse525 please do not waste your time I agree to gain experience then apply to NYP, which that is my plan now😉 but if I find a job in another hospital trust I'll stay in another hospital 😏

Hi! I went to the event in November and I had a phone interview in January and was officially hired on February 10th. I had no connections and my only foot in the door was through the New Grad Meet and Greet. I know I am probably the minority but in my opinion, it was definitely worth it! I have loved my experience there so far and consider myself fortunate to work there.

same - no connections, not from the tri-state, but I still managed to be offered a position. I know that the meet-and-greet seems like a waste of time to people, but if your resume is a good fit for the PCD's unit then you've got a fighting chance.
