Hi Everyone, I have a BSN and have almost 2 years experience (1 of med/surg and the rest of mother/baby, postpartum experience). I was hoping to soon move to NC to the Raleigh-Durham area. I was hoping to get advice regarding as to where I should apply. I know that Rex, UNC, WakeMed and Duke at the big ones but I was hoping to get more information regarding them. I hope to go back to school within a year or two after moving down. I'm coming from one of the best hospitals in NYC where I am being paid about $46-47/hr but the taxes kill me. I know I will not be paid anywhere near that in NC but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to take. I've lived in NYC all my life and I am hoping for a change of scene and quieter state of mind. NYC is too stressful!!!

My sister-in- law gave me the cardiology 3 in breast cancer pink, wore it once and it rubbed off with something black that does not come off with anything!!!

I took the exam on August 4th last year and it was up three days later. Hopefully, it should be up within a week.

How were you able to score an interview for that event? I've been applying for jobs at NYP for a while and am a May 2015 new grad wuth almost 7 months of med-surg experience but still get automatically disqualified. I know there are ways to get around the requirements but I'm not sure how to.

Hi Everyone, I recently got my first job working on a med/surg floor at a nyc hospital. I absolutely hate it. The floor is extremely busy and has a bad reputation of many nurses leaving. I hated it even during my orientation but I assumed it would get better. I know a lot of people say I should stay and work there for at least 1 year but I can't see myself staying there for that long. It's beginning to affect my emotional and physical health. I know I should be grateful for having a job so soon after graduating but it is not what I expected it to be. I guess my mistake was wanting to get some med/surg experience prior to going into the specialty that I actually wanted which is maternal/child health. I've tried looking at applying at other hospitals but it seems nearly impossible to get in without having some sort of connection which I don't have. Would anyone have advice as to what I should do?

Hey newnurse525, from what I've heard these events are usually packed. My friend went to the December meet and greet and she told me that more than 500 student nurses were there. I don't think it's worth if I'm being honest because there are so many nursing students within new york city already that actually have clinical experience at NYP, volunteer there or even work there already on top of other students from the tri-state area. My suggestion would be to try to find a job within the state you're in that can possibly offer a new graduate nurse residency program, get some experience and then apply for jobs at NYP once you feel more confident as a nurse.
