New Graduate RN

U.S.A. New York

Published

I graduated with my BSN in May 2014 and then quickly - and I mean quick, 30 minute NCLEX test - passed the boards and received my RN license in NY in June 2014. I have been applying for positions and calling around, but with no luck.

Can anybody offer any advice or help with the job hunt? I have experience working as a CNA in some great Boston hospitals, but now I am starting to think I should not have left Boston.

I am not a hospital snob either. I am very open to working in nursing home, LTC, etc.

However, even some of the nursing homes I have called will not accept new graduates.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Hi,

I missed the open house event as well. Does anyone know of any other job fair or open house events in New York City? Thank you.

Wow and I just found out about NYHQ. That's depressing for me :/

You were able to get into an agency as a new grad? Was it for homecare? If you don't mind me asking, which agency was it? I have applied to hundreds of jobs. Any info is definitely appreciated. Thank you.

Yes for homecare. Due to non disclosure I can't tell you the company. You should try work force 1. They got me the first job which led to my current full time employment.

Thank you for your response! I will look into it.

Hey guys,

My friend sent me an email about school nurses that hire new grads with no experience. The pay also seems to be decent depending on which setting you end up specifically.

Horizon Healthcare Staffing is one of the leading providers of School Nurses in the five boroughs of NYC.The following types of School nursing assignments are available:

  • General School Nurse
  • 1 : 1 School Nurse
  • Transportation School Nurse
  • Field Trip School Nurse

Pre-register and get a free gift when you arrive!Contact: **********

There open house already seemed to have passed but maybe you could try calling the contact. Hope this helps.

When you go to the site, it says you have to have a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Specializes in MedSurg, PACU, Maternal/Child Health.

Agencies are known for seeking RNs with experience only. They have contract with facilities to get them nurses that need minimal orientation. However if you apply for school nurse on the NYC dohmh aka dept of health website you may be considered . The employer themselves will consider you just not the agwncies. Good luck

Ps the school nurse job is posted as "Public Health Nurse" in the office of school health department.
