How to get into a program, help I'm 33 and rejected twice...

hi, i'm a new member and fascinated with all the info available here as i didn't get any advice until now. i've applied twice to the nursing program in spring 2006 and fall 2008 at nassau community college with gpa of 3.75 and all the non nursing perquisites and of course i did not get accepted. not to waste my life and wait for a year i had my daughter in feb. 2008 and now that she's a year old i need to do something with my life. does anyone know how to increase one's chances of getting into nassau community college? i want to apply this october for the 2010 spring semester but they only take 45 daytime students. i'm really desperate i'd like to know what other programs could give me a better chance of getting in. i live in queens and wouldn't mind commuting. i'm even considering getting my degree in poland where my parents live and where it could be easier to complete and get into the program, but i don't know what are the rules on hiring foreign nurses and how i'd register and certify myself to work as a nurse in the states or the european union for that matter. i will do whatever it takes as long as i know that i can get into a program and start the studies. i cannot afford to wait another year thinking i may get accepted and what if not? does anyone know the answers to those questions? i'm 33 and feel like that's my last chance to do something. please help anyone. thanks.

How about Cuny City Tech in Brooklyn?

thank you, everybody. i appreciate all your help so much. i've got in touch with the cuny schools and the only problem i'm facing is that in order to apply for the nursing program in one of the cuny schools you need to be a current student in the specific school for a semester and then apply for the next semester and you can only attend one cuny school at a time. so with that i'll keep searching. i'll put my applications for more schools for this coming october to start in the spring and see what happens. does anybody know how it is in california, maybe someone knows not so expensive nursing schools i could apply for. thank you so much again. you all helped me immensely.

CA nursing schools are so overcrowded with applicants that one can go for several years before getting in, if at all. People who have the money have the option to go to the proprietary schools. There is one that charges about $116,000 for a BSN and about $60,000 for an ASN. You have to be desperate to get into that kind of debt. There are also students who don't even mess with the situation and move out of the state to attend nursing school elsewhere.

Then when you graduate you can't get a job in CA. Not a good situation at all.

If you are willing to make the $$$$ investment consider a private school. LIU-Brooklyn is perfect example. As long as you have a 2.75 GPA in your regular classes AND science classes you a guaranteed a spot if gained entrance (and after you pass the HESI entrance exam).

Go to the website and call someone in the office of the School of Nursing.

Don't give up. I got rejected from suffolk and got into several private schools mentioned aboved. I ended up choosing molloy college and let me tell you that i love it. I start my first clinicals in the fall. My gpa was 3.3 at the time...so don't give up on your dream!

Hi,

I just applied to Molloy for spring 2010. I was just rejected from Suffolk Nursing Program for Spring of 2010. Can you give me some information on the Nursing Program at Molloy? Thanks
