Guess It's Official -Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing Is Closed

Was looking around the NYS government nursing program website for something else and noticed LICH listed as "closed 08/11".

So guess that is that.

Where have you been? This was big news last year. Even on their website it said that they were no longer accepting applications.

Beg your pardon but one *did* see LICH's website and it says the same thing it continues to say:

"Welcome to the LICHSON website

We are working hard on migrating to our new website, which will be up and running soon.

If you need any information please contact us at: 718-780-1071

We are looking forward to answering any questions you may have.

LICHSON is no longer accepting applications for the 2011 freshman class.

Information regarding the 2012 freshman class admission will be posted soon."

Those statements in of themselves do not indicate to me that the school is shut permanently. However being listed as "closed" on the NYS webside does.

Oh well, at any rate it is still rather sad. For a great school with so much history to go out like that. At least places such as Saint Vincent's allowed those whom had been accepted to enter and complete the program before shutting down/being sold off.

Wonder what will happen with the former school buildings? If they aren't landmarked they are fair game for being sold. Given how hot the Brooklyn real estate market is at the moment it would probably fetch a good price.

I live out of state and did not know this until recently. Graduated in 1987, worked at LICH and had my babies there. Feeling a little sad for this small, intimate program that gave me great preparation for anything nursing. C'est la vie!

I found out recently myself as I need official transcripts to apply for licensure via endorsement for a couple states. Instant sadness came over me once I found out. Class of '05! Wonderful institution and it will be greatly missed in the nursing education world.
