HI,

I hope someone can help me get a real answer to this. Has anyone gone to Dutchess Community College and waited to get into clinicals? I heard one year is expected???? I hope not. How do they base who gets first dib? I am not getting a clear answer from DCC. Thanks.

I am a nursing student at Dutchess Community College (part time evening program). And what you have heard about the wait list has a lot of truth to it!

Depending on which program you are entering will determine the wait. The evening program has very limited seats so there is more selectivity on who gets in. Unless the evening program has changed the entry requirements, I believe the date of matriculation, grades, and completion of prerequiste courses determines how "quickly" you can get into the evening program. I know of many students who couldn't get into the evening program because of their so so grades.

For the day program, I know there are more seats available and I had friends who originally planned on going into the evening program were offered a seat for the day program very quickly. But again, it depends on how many seats versus the # of students.

But regardless of which program, excellent grades will help you get in (its still not a guarantee). Dont let the wait list discourage you. I do know of a couple of students whose grades were "so-so" and by luck they got into the program without waiting a year.

The nursing program is highly competitive and sometimes its by "luck" that people can get in quickly. The registrar at Dutchess Community College in my opinion has been pretty reliable about the wait time.

If you are one of the lucky people who gets into clinicals in a decent amount of time, and you don't pass the course, getting back in is very very difficult! - But thats a whole separate topic!!!
