Do you attend Hunter College (CUNY) ?

U.S.A. New York

Hi,

I'm starting Hunter in the fall (pre-clinical) as a second degree student. It's so hard to find reviews of undergraduate nursing programs. I was wondering if I could get some real feedback from current students...any opinions about the program, people, anything at all. THANKS a bunch.

This is my reply to NewtoNursing post.

When I applied for the Generic pathway in Spring 2004, I was told only 80 students will be accepted out of 250-300+ students who are applying. When I got in, I found that there's only 75 students in the Fall 2004 generic pathway roster. That tells you how competitive to get into the program.

Exactly, how good the program is compared to other nursing programs?

I don't know and I'll be suprised if anybody knows.

Here's what I know - hunter nursing program is the top nursing school in CUNY and hunter nursing graduates have a reputation of being one of the best nursing graduates in the country.

THE VIEW FROM WITHIN THE PROGRAM

The program gets more competitive once you get in. You will be challenged in many levels. Workload can be very stressful. You have to learn to cope, manage and be on top of everything. One of the things I like the best about the program is that they offer the most valuable experiences in clinical settings. They also have great professors and instructors to help and guide you.

But to tell you the truth, its impossible to sum up the program in this post.

You just have to get in and find out for yourself. So my advice is to do your best in everything you do and have fun doing it. Good Luck!

I'm just co-signing on what the previous poster said. This is a very reputable program and very competitive. That 80/300 number is what shyed me away, and that's a reason why I didn't apply to Hunter. Truthfully I thought it was more like 80/1000 students that get accepted:uhoh21:

Im a Hunter graduate.. I came in freshman year as a pre-nursing major and had to switch to Community Health Education during my sophmore-junior year, because the nursing program is too competitive. If you do not have a 3.8 GPA or above, forget about even applying.. Your wasting your time. (sorry just keeping it real). Changing majors is the path that most students who enter as a pre-nursing student take. I do not regret graduating from the Community Health Education program, because Health Educators do the same thing as nurses but not in the clinical form. Its just as prestigious as the nursing program. Right now I am looking into second degree and other BSN programs at other colleges to pursue a nursing degree.
