Can RN students work as a CNA?

U.S.A. New York

Anyone know what are the rules to work as a CNA here in NY? Heard that if you pass a fundamentals of nursing course, you can sit through a CNA program, or simply just work as one.

Don't really have all the interest, money, or time to take an 8-week course if I'm not learning anything new! Or is there no other way to go through the 8-week course? Hope someone can shed some light on this subject, thank you. Would be such a HUGE help to get some experience working in the field before graduating!

I could be wrong on this, but I believe to be a CNA in a hospital you dont need anything (even a course) Although they obviously prefer experience or a nursing background/education

But to be a CNA in a nursing home or something you do.

Although I think theres some technical jargon to be a CNA at the hospital I work at. Like to be a CNA you need a certificate, but to be a Nurses Aid you dont. And they hire both

If youre graduating this May (ish) its highly unlikely they would hire you though. Doesnt make sense for them to interview you train you and all that now, knowing that in a few weeks/months after starting youd be an RN. Then theyd have to hire someone else and start over again.

If you are a Nursing student, as long as you have a first year Fundamentals , you can find work as a CNA is most hospitals.

If you are not anything...you have to do your CNA certification( course and stuff). I am sure that for a Nursing home, you must have the CNA certification for sure. If you are graduating in May, I doubt they will hire you at this point. During my 2nd year in NS, i got an externship with NSLIJ as a Nursing associate. I did wonderful , worked as basically a CNA. I was offered a job right away after graduation . I was lucky. My philosophy is to have a GREAT relationship with your nursing instructors, network A LOT. Believe it or not , that would help you greatly land a job much quicker than others. Good LUCK!
