Beth Israel School of Nursing, 2011/2012 Applicants? NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all - I've been reviewing the boards here for a while and thank you all for your detailed responses and information left. This board is awesome and has really helped me calm my nerves with respect to the admissions process at Beth Israel in NYC.

My apologies if a thread of this nature already exists - (i couldn't find one) -- Just wondering if any 2012 applicants are out there?? I am applying to the evening session beginning in January 2012.

I've submitted my completed package and scored an 89th percentile AD on the NLN PAX. I took the computerized version and was able to get my scores back immediately. The anticipation would have killed me otherwise. :nurse:

Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting a call or email from PBISON regarding the next step in the admission process which is the in-person interview. Fingers, Toes, and eyes are crossed!

Is anyone else out there applying for admission to the 2011/2012 entering class? Anyone further ahead in the process, perhaps you've had your interview already? I'm wondering how long to wait from the time I submitted my scores to the time of following up w/ the admissions board... I'm thinking 2 weeks is fair.?

Any comments welcome. Thanks in advance - and good luck!

wow!! Ownie your scores are great :smokin:

What was your comp score?

Sounds like your interview went well

Thanks for posting. Im waiting, its killing me. I applied in Feb as well, and did my NLN March 14th. I did okay I got 130 comp.

Congraulations to all !!!

I am currently wating for my results. I just received a called for MG stating that my profile is completed and that results will take another two weeks all so. I applied for the ATOP Pogram since I have 56 credits with an GPA of 3.0. I studied hard for the NLN but I honeslty can't tell how well I did since on my practice review I never did well.

I fell extremely stressed with this wait:redbeathe

i am so nervous for the big day. guys!!! what will they ask? lol I know what they will ask but I want to hear it again?

Hi everyone, and congrats Sulo! Ownie, thanks for the interview rundown! Sounded reassuring and positive, which is awesome after all this waiting and stress I'm sure we're all feeling.

I got my NLN scores back and I'm so relieved! My math sucked, as expected, but I got a 99th percentile on the other two so my composite is 98. I really hope this is enough to get me an interview. My HS gpa was low, but my BS in psyc was pretty good. There were a ton of people taking the test the same day I did so I'm sure I have a lot of waiting ahead of me.

Be prepared to answer questions such as,

where do you work? What do you do?

What is your greatest accomplishment?

What experience do you have with hospitals/nursing homes?

What do you think being a nurse is? When did you decide on being a nurse?

How well do you handle pressure? What experience do you have in handling pressure?

How do you plan to pay for PBI?

What plans do you have after PBI?

I would just relax and let things flow out naturally. She told me not to be nervous because I was on the last leg of the application process and that the hard part was now over. The interview took about an hour and it was mostly me describing my life and what I want from it. We talked about how I became the person that I am. She heavily refers to your application essay so I suggest you read it before you go to the interview.

I think that once you are called for an interview, you have satisfied their on-paper demands and the interview is just to see what kind of a person you are.

If you are a good person, I think you will be fine. Good luck good people!

Hi. Im new to this thread. Applying to PBISON for fall of 2011. Have BA in Health Sciences. Received NLN test scores yesterday. 135 composite and 93%AD, I heard acceptance is competitive. Wondering what me chances of getting interview are.

Hard to say without knowing your GPA and whether you have any healthcare experience. Previous years' statistics indicate over 1000 applicants vying for about 150 spots.

Working as an EMT fulltime. Overall GPA at 2.6. Took some pre-req at community colleges where grades were considerably higher. Many of my classes at SUNY SB were with pre-med students. Seemed like syllabus for those courses were more difficult. Who knows? :lol2:

Im so usept at myself I didnt do well at all on my nln score I just hope they take in consideration my gpa and credits and that I know a lot of people don't apply for the ATOP. Still have a litltle hope.

i'd say you have a decent chance at getting an interview. it also depends on your essay and letter of recommendations. generally people with high nln pax scores and high gpas get interviewed first, so be patient. good luck to you!

here's the thing, the percentile score states how well you did compared to other test takers in the same program (ad or di). the composite score is a calculation based on how many actual questions you answered correctly (it's not the number of questions you got right). let's say your composite score was 100 and another person scored 110. you both might be in the same percentile, e.g. 80 (depending on how everyone else did). however, when the school looks at your scores, they will rank the person with the 110 score higher even though you both are in the same percentile. we post composite score to know how we stack up against people in or around our percentile.

of course you have a chance, just like everyone who'd posted on this thread!:) your nln score and gpa are above the minimum requirements for admission. the rest of your application package i.e. essay, recommendation letters, healthcare experience, will determine whether you get an interview or not. have faith!
