Beth Israel School of Nursing, 2011/2012 Applicants? NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all - I've been reviewing the boards here for a while and thank you all for your detailed responses and information left. This board is awesome and has really helped me calm my nerves with respect to the admissions process at Beth Israel in NYC.

My apologies if a thread of this nature already exists - (i couldn't find one) -- Just wondering if any 2012 applicants are out there?? I am applying to the evening session beginning in January 2012.

I've submitted my completed package and scored an 89th percentile AD on the NLN PAX. I took the computerized version and was able to get my scores back immediately. The anticipation would have killed me otherwise. :nurse:

Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting a call or email from PBISON regarding the next step in the admission process which is the in-person interview. Fingers, Toes, and eyes are crossed!

Is anyone else out there applying for admission to the 2011/2012 entering class? Anyone further ahead in the process, perhaps you've had your interview already? I'm wondering how long to wait from the time I submitted my scores to the time of following up w/ the admissions board... I'm thinking 2 weeks is fair.?

Any comments welcome. Thanks in advance - and good luck!

@washcaps.. I am applying for the evening track too. I work full time - so it's not an option for me to attend during the day.

@NYMaia.. How do you think you did on the exam? Good Luck in your application!!

I haven't heard back from PBISoN yet - it's been 2 weeks since my scores were received on their end so today i sent a follow up just looking for any hint of, well... anything! :) We'll see what happens.. ***is usually great w/ responding and communications.

just updating for you all - **** w/b and advised that the board would be reviewing completed apps by may 1 and that all who are candidates to attend will then be interviewed accordingly. I just have to be patient at this point.. Ahhhh - boo to competition! :) Please do keep me posted, all.. and Good Luck!

Hi I too am applying for the school and have been looking for a current post. For those of you who scored in the 80s and 90s percentile please let me know how you felt after the test. basically i was able to get through all the questions. math and reading are fairly straight forward. however vocab and some science did not know. overall i feel bc i was rushed that i came out of there with a 75% if it had been score as a regular exam. for those that got high percetile do u feel you really knew all questions? did you finish all questions? I took test on the 23rd. yesterday! I have not submitted application!

I too have a 4.0 in high school however College i barely got a 3.0. I did some volunteer work. My prereqs are all Bs tho. Do I have a good chance? can more of you with INTRVIEW SHARE EXAM SCORE? AND HOW THEY FELT AFTER TAKING EXAM, WERE YOU SURPRISED TO RECEIVE HIGH PERCENTILE BASED ON HOW YOU FELT AFTER TEST? I just feel that although i feel i did a 75% that i will somehow manage to get a high percentile.

i took paper version will my scores be posted online or when will i receive them?

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. You will receive your score approximately 10-14 days after taking your test. Remember that Beth Israel deadline for the application is April 1st, so you may have to submit the app first then send the score in later (by May 1st).

Regarding your chances it's somewhat hard to say. Everyone has a chance, so to speak. Those with high test scores and GPA have better chances. However, past applicants with NLN-PAX percentile in the 80s have gotten in so it's not like you have to be perfect on that one particular test. Your personal essay and letters do contribute to the overall appeal of your application.

I think I felt relief when I finished the NLN-PAX. I was confident that I did well on the Verbal and Math parts while not so confident on the Science section. See this post for more info about my experience with the exam.

Again, good luck to all!

Hi...to anyone who's had their interview. What kinds of questions do they ask?

Hi...to anyone who's had their interview. What kinds of questions do they ask?

The interview is more like an intimate discussion of your life rather than a traditional question/answer sit-down. Questions that come up generally are of the strength and weaknesses types, roles of a nurse, your proudest accomplishments, etc. You may be asked to clarify certain points in your essay or expand on them.

I wouldn't worry about it. The staff there is extremely friendly and helpful.

flea - have you been called in for an interview?

So excited, turned in my app at the school today. A recommendation letter took forever to arrive and I didn't trust the mail to deliver it by tomorrow! Taking the NLN on Saturday morning, see anyone there?

Newsworthy!

"Ninety-seven percent of recent graduates of Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in Manhattan passed the RN licensing exam on their first try."

@ Nikki. Not yet. I walked my appl in 1 week ago. Was told it looked great & to expect a call. 3.9 in science pre reqs and 95th percentile on nln but poor undergrad grades from a long time ago. Fingers crossed.

:vlin:

I cant decide whether I will do the Atop or evening. Is anyone applying to one of these programs and missing perhaps one of the required classes?

Awesome! I am so anxious with this whole situation!

Good luck, Washcaps!

Best of luck to you! Impressive grades all around. I, too, have the poor undergrad grades from back when.... Let's hope that they consider everything and put some focus on the present person as opposed to the past.

Good luck to you! Please keep me posted on the status of interviews etc. I wish best of luck for all of us!

@aspiring: I am applying for the evening.... Since it starts in January, it gives me enough time to complete all of the required pre-reqs. I just finished up my AP1 and Eng1 last semester and am currently attending AP2 and Dev Psych classes at night. If all goes as planned, I can do the microbio before Jan, and pick up their required Chem via Penn Foster's online HS courses. I am acting "as-if"... As if I am in! :) Positive vibes all around..
