Best School for Me - NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello, everyone! I am new to this forum, and I joined because I thought there was so much good information. I also have a very specific question, and would really appreciate any insight. I was recently accepted into BMCC-CUNY with an eye to complete the pre-clinical sequence and go into the nursing program. My academic background is that I have a B.A. in Linguistics and a Master's in Acupuncture. Currently, I am in private practice as a NYS-licensed acupuncturist. One of the pre-clinical required classes is English 101. I didn't take it as an undergraduate, because I had a top score (5) on my advanced placement english exam coming out of high school. I took many 400-level english and creative writing classes, and got my degree in Linguistics. And now the admissions counselor at BMCC is telling me that I have to take English 101! I am really upset about it, because I know I will have to really apply myself to be successful in all the math and science I will be studying, and English 101 is a huge waste of my time! I am starting to think that maybe this is not the best program for me. Any advice on a school that can be reasonable about this kind of thing? I don't mind re-taking Anatomy & Physiology, etc., but Freshman Comp?!? C'mon.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Welcome. Since no one has answered yet, it might be better served in the New York Nursing Programs forum, which is where I'll move it.

Good luck!

Why don't you try to take the CLEP. Some schools accept that as a substitute.

Ahh, welcome to the CUNY sytem ( I graduated Hunter) and am aware of the bs CUNY puts ppl through. Good luck....although I think you may have to suck it up and take it again....try an accel. winter course and just knock it out..

i couldnt get into nursing program at bmcc with 3.77 gpa because my eng 101. one of my friend who is a part time writer at CNN got C- from english 101 Bmcc. Eng Dep Chair says; he should gets all As. Are you looking for something fair at bmcc? they allow between 500-600 people to pre-clinical but only max 105 to clinical. be smart and dont waste your time because most college doesnt accept their some classes.

if it would be soooo easy for you shut up and pass it with flying colors
