Rutgers ABSN 2013

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hey everyone, my name is Nicole and I am hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers accelerated nursing program that begins this May/June. I would love to chat with anyone who is currently in the program or who is applying for entry into the program for 2013.

Here's a little about myself..I graduated from Rutgers in 2010 with a double major in biology and nutrition (3.7 GPA), and then went on to graduate school at UMDNJ where I studied Epidemiology (4.0 GPA). I am really hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers program, but am nervous because they only accept a small cohort of students. I've also applied to Seton Hall's ABSN program which is at Georgian Court, but Rutgers is my 1st choice.

Hi Jayipe,

I talked to the asst. dean on the phone last week and he went over my transcript. I think you are fine as long as it is something to do with computers. I've got nothing computer related, unfortunately. During the application process I contacted a more general admissions email and they gave me a list that was much more broad, but I think that was for second bachelor's in fields other than nursing! Argh.

I'm going to try to call again and see if I can get some details.

Hi everyone, I did get in touch with a helpful person at Rutgers and found out that the orientation is May 10, program starts May 28th. At the orientation syllabi will be given out for any courses we need to challenge. These will need to be completed before the end of summer classes. The technology elective can be fulfilled with a computer course of some kind and it is not available to be challenged. She will get back to me about what I will have to do about that, probably take it during the summer at Rutgers or a community college.

Thank you, hopewellmom!!

Thanks hopewellmom! I'm nervous bc I'll be on vacation from 5/10-5/17 so I'll miss orientation. I'm going to see if I can make an appointment beforehand to pick up any materials/important info from orientation.

Hi guys,

My status page says I was admitted too :), with special condition: New Brunswick campus.

I am a re-enrollment applicant (since I already graduated from Rutgers) and may have a slightly different application status page than some here. I was wondering about the challenges too. My application status page doesn't mention any of the classes I need to challenge, but I received a call from the Dean last week letting me know that I would need to challenge at least two.

Did any of your pages actually mention which classes you have to challenge? Also, has anyone made a deposit or registered? I'm not sure how to proceed. Tried to call the deans and the school the last two days with no luck either...

Hey DPchonky,

Congrats! I'm also a RU alumni, so looks like we're in the same boat. On the re-enrollment status page, I didn't see anything to accept the offer or to pay an enrollment fee. Maybe it is waived for us? I also tried to reinstate my old RU net id, and am having the same issue so I think the registrar still needs time to update. Hopefully we will receive more info on how to proceed ASAP

Nic, let me know what they tell you about making an appointment for a separate personal meeting. I have a final from 7-9am on May 10 so if orientation is 10am or after I can swing it, otherwise maybe I'll try to take the final a week prior.

Jayipe, they only started to break it up into two cohorts last year because there was such a high demand and only 20 seats. In 2011-2012 it was every other semester at Newark and every other at NB. This is what we were told at the information session held back in October, there will be 20 seats per location. Even though they have yet to switch the app to have both options (you can only choose Newark accelerated) they told us to put our preference in the essay section otherwise they would try to group us by distance from home.

Hi everyone,

I found out I was accepted to the program on 4/14. However, I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer. My status as of right now is "Admitted and Enrolling." I noticed that a few people said their status was conditional upon certain grades. I haven't finished A&P II or Chem II so I'm wondering why I don't have this status. Also, I have yet to receive an actual email from the college advising me that I am accepted with next steps. The only way I knew was by checking my status. Did anyone receive an email?

Also, I noticed that some people said they were accepted to a Newark or NB campus. I don't think mine distinguishes. Where can I find this? Lastly, I tried to start registering for classes but it is telling me that I can't. Was anybody able to do this?

Thanks everyone for the help! Looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

Kate

Thelittledoe- thank you for the clarification! I live 30 minutes from NB and a little over an hour from Newark, but it seems like I've been enrolled in Newark.

Kate- On the enrollment pathway homepage, I clicked on "Academic Advisement and Registration". There were 2 links: 2012-2013 Rutgers-Newark Undergraduate Catalog and fall 2013 Schedule of Classes. I'm assuming that I've been admitted to the Newark cohort. The registration page isn't letting me register either.

I think maybe we all register at the orientation on May 10th. I think we are always all in the same set of classes.

I wish it was possible to find out all the details before accepting admittance and before going to the orientation. It seems like that is where we will find out everything.

Kate- you may want to check your spam box on your email. Oddly that's where my acceptance email was sent. Also, several of us had to call or email student services to find out which campus we're on, some people were told in the email. Lastly, I don't think there are particular conditions based on grades of your current classes. You'll still have to send in your final transcripts but they just want to make sure that your grade trends don't change drastically.

Hopewellmom- did you attend any of the information sessions? That's where I'm pulling a lot of my information from. If you have specific questions let me know and I might be able to answer them or I can ask the girl I work with who is currently in the program. My only confusion is with the schedule set for our NB summer session. Does anyone know for sure if Health Assessment and Nursing Care Provider are lecture, clinical or both? It doesn't seem as though there is enough time allotted in the schedule for both.

Hi Littledoe,

I have been in contact with the Dean about not being able to attend orientation, and she said I can make an appointment to meet with her beforehand in order to obtain info given out at orientation. So if you can't attend, I would do that as well :)

To all former RU students,

On our re-enrollment status page, there is no option to accept the offer/secure our seats...there is only the option to withdraw from the program. I had assumed that by not clicking on "withdraw", that we were automatically enrolled and that we would receive subsequent information about the program. However, after days of not hearing anything, I decided to call and find our for sure. I have been in contact with the undergraduate coordinator, and she has informed me that we still need to send her an email or call her to inform her that we would like to accept the offer. I just did so this morning. Because I can't provide names on this site, just search for her on this link: http://nursing.rutgers.edu/current-students/student-services/student-services-staff-contact-information. She is the "undergrad program coordinator". Hope this helps!!

Thanks a ton nic! I emailed her just now hoping that I will be able to do the same. Who knows, maybe she'll schedule us at the same time so that she doesn't have to go over it more than once. Unfortunately that means I may not meet the rest of you until class begins!
