Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing Program (Camden)

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

I sent my application into OLOL (Camden) and I was wondering if anyone has attended this program in the past few years? I havent really found anything on the internet about this school and I was wondering if it is a good program or not. I have read that it was good 30 years ago... but how about now? I wanted to start Jan. 2012 but they already picked for that start date so I have my application in for August 2012. As of now that is my 1st choice in schools unless I hear that it's not a great program. I am very nervous about Nursing School to start with so it is important for me to hear about the program.

Hey guys, me again! I'm going to go to the open house next week as well. I emailed -------------------- and he said that evening/weekend clinicals are offered. I'm taking it with a grain of salt and trying not to get excited until after I attend the open house. He did tell me I should fill out the application and start all my paperwork, so I'm optimistic! I'm not thrilled about the changes, but I haven't taken statistics yet, so that's one thing off my plate. I did take nutrition though, yet I haven't taken World Civ. Definitely not looking forward to that class!

I think I'm going as well! I found World Civ during the first summer session in the morning, so I'm taking it then :-) It means morning and night classes the whole first summer session, but it will make the second session easy by comparison :-)

ya, I don't think world civ will be that bad. Nutrition is required for a lot of other programs, so it's still good to have!

That's great that they have evening/weekend clinicals. I'm crossing my fingers that I can get in the Fall 2012 class!

Hey everyone. I am chiming in totally late but I have been busy trying to finish up my Spring semester at BCC. It was a tough one for me. I took to many classes.

I am a bit confused on what is going on with having to take world civ, not having to take stat and nutrition. When you go on OLOL website http://www.lourdesnursingschool.org/academics/calendar-plan.php it still is the same classes that they originally said. I knew nothing about the other website. This is crazy if they made changes and never sent out notices to people. I paid money to apply to their school and now everything is different?!?

I just wanted to let everyone on here know that I dont think that is the case with switching and cancelling of the classes. I spoke with someone a little while back about my classes and I was told all I needed was Nutrition. I dont know where that website came from but it is a blog not the actual OLOL website. I have all of my information in front of me that I rcvd in the mail on Jan25 and it says nothing of the changes as well.

I would not go switching classes before you actually speak to someone there. I am a little worried about it myself but I dont think that is the case. I might be wrong... but I wont know until I actually speak with someone. I too am not able to register for the Nursing class until I get the acceptance letter, but that might have something to do with not going to CCC and going to BCC instead. Who knows.

If anyone has actually spoken to a person who works at OLOL and they told them that classes have changed please let me know. Other then that I will be calling next week.

I spoke with ----------------------- at the open house at OLOL. They are working on becoming a BSN program through Immaculata College, and the curriculum changes seem driven by what will be necessary at Immaculata.

We will still eventually need Statistics and Nutrition - at least that's what it sounded like to me - to get the BSN, but they are not going to be required at OLOL to get into the program. I was already registered in the Intro to Nursing class, and he had me drop that and add World Civ, so I'm taking that this Summer.

I'm a little irked by some things. But at this point, it's just so darn hard to get into any program, at least here, I feel like I have a foot in the door.

The blog is ------------------------, although not an official OLOL blog.

I dont see on the blog where it says all the pre req that are needed now. I dont know if I want to go to Immaculata. I really wanted to get my BSN through the internet b/c I plan on working full time as well. My best friend is doing that right now online and she only has 2 classes left and then she is done. She is going through (which is a crazy expensive school) but the hospital she works at is paying her back.

Can you please link the blog page (exactly where it is) that says all the changes. I dont have the world civ class. I was taking nutrition in the fall and as far as I was told a few weeks ago.. that was the only class that I needed for acceptance. I was told nothing about the world civ class. If I knew all that I would have taken it this summer. But it is to late now. Most of the classes are filled. UGH!!!

Ok... I see where it says that you can take World Civ... but it isnt a pre-req. It says to take it if you are waiting for acceptance. THANK GOD. That was all I needed... another class to hold me back form getting accepted. But I still dont see where it says that stat and nutrition are not mandatory for acceptance are no longer on their list of requirements. Please let me know where it says everything. I am very interested. If this is the case then I have everything but Micro (and I am taking that in the fall).

The several blogs detailing the curriculum change have been removed - I am assuming as a result of the flack he got from the administration. It did not seem that he was meant to be providing that type of information publicly yet.

I get the impression that all of your coursework will still be done at OLOL for the BSN - but because there has been no agreement made yet, there weren't a lot of answers for some of the questions. I am sure you can opt to do only an RN program with OLOL and then go wherever you want for your BSN.

The partnership with Immaculata isn't expected to affect classes until MAYBE Fall 2012/Spring 2013. I'm glad to have Stats and Nutrition done regardless, but it's killing me to have to take World Civ. I've done other histories :-(

Oh - and I had to get his approval to get into the Intro to Nursing class - which I did on like a Wednesday; and then on that same week's Friday, found out that he was telling people not to take it - take the World Civ instead :-( I've still not gotten an answer for sure if I'll need the Intro to Nursing course!

I am not really thinking about my BSN yet. I just want to get accepted into a nursing school. When I spoke with ------------------ he kept asking me about Immaculata. All I know is that all the extra classes I have taken toward my BSN I have gone off of 's curriculum. They are attached to BCC so that was the only thing I could think to do. It made the most sense.

He asked me why I was taking certain courses and I told him I needed to for Unemployment and b/c that is what Drexel needs. I think he was mad over it. It's not that I want to go to Drexel (its to much money) but that was all I could think to do. I kept telling him that I am not thinking about my BSN now. I am focusing on today and what school I will be accepted too. I applied to BCC as well.

It seems that I needed to say that I wanted to go to Immaculata but I don't know. That is soooo far away. If I even get accepted into OLOL that is not until 2012... then I still have 2 years after I start. That is WAY far away. I don't know. I am totally confused.

So what classes do you need to still take for acceptance? A&P I, A&P II.. and what else? I only need A&P II (which I start in about a week), and Micro (which I am taking in the fall with Nutrition b/c other schools require it).

Thanks for getting all the info back to me. I was kinda having a panic attack. I mean... no matter what other schools need it, but OLOL is my 1st choice. I am a little skeptical now just b/c I wasnt notified of all the changes... but if that is not the case anymore then I am OK.

I need A&P I&II (summer semesters); General Chemistry and Microbiology (both in the fall). I'll also have the World Civ done by the end of the first summer semester.

You're in a much better position than I am in terms of fall 2012 - apparently, the way he explained it at the Open House - it's all based on a points system. You get so many points for your pre-reqs; so many for the TEAS; etc. The closer you are to your pre-reqs done, the better off you are. I still have four to do :-( I did get an A in Biology this semester, though, so that's a huge relief!

I wouldn't sweat the Immaculata stuff - it could all fall through, but even if it doesn't, it doesn't affect the school at least for another 18 months to two years. We may be in by then!

I actually think that we are in the same boat. You got a fantastic score on your TEAS... I didnt. I was thinking about re-taking them this summer but who knows if I will have the time and energy. I know that I havent studied yet. I think I remember you writing that your score was over the % that they consider exceptional. WHICH IS AMAZING. Congrats again .

I had an "ok" semester with my grades. I think that I am walking away with 2 A's (only one of which will count towards the associates degree), 1 B+, 2 B's, and I am waiting on my Chem lecture class. I hope that I get a B. I really struggled in that class. If I get a C then I will have to retake it at some point. BCC allows C's... they arent as crazy about that as OLOL. I really hope that I get that B, b/c I dont want to have to take that class again. I used to have all A's (and one B from last semester). But all these sciences are killing me. My GPA will not be as good as it was, which is upsetting but there is nothing I can do about it. I took way to many classes (4 of which were science.. chem/chem lab/a&p/a&p lab. NEVER AGAIN will I do that. Well.,.. actually this fall I am taking 3 classes that are science.

Anyway... I hope that everything works out. I relaly should go to an open house so I can actually see the school and not just an office. I need to keep an eye out for the next one.

yeah it is really stressful.. i did pretty good on my TEAS.. I got a 76, but I am really worried about chem! I am probably going to end up with a C. I really struggled with that class... I did really well in AP I and II so we will see what happens. I know he said if I get an A or a B in AP I and II and a C in chem then I would be fine.... All the other pre-req I did fairly well. You only need a 2.5 to get in, but obviously the better you do the better chance you have to get in. They said that you really don't compete with everyone else to get in, just getting good grades, but I don't see how that is.. anyway I knew that they were going to do that thing with Immaculata, which is really great... who knows maybe itll be online too. I am going to send my grades after this semester and hope for the best. Ill have all of my sciences done this summer but I won't have that world civ pre-req completed.
