New Grad Freaking out about jobs

U.S.A. New Jersey

I graduated in December and just got my license in April. For this past month I've been submitting resume after resume after resume. Probably about 50-60 so far. I am not picky, and very flexible. I applied to Hospitals, LTC, Rehabs, surgical centers. I got one interview at an ambulatory surgical center but they are looking were looking for an Experienced OR nurse so this job was definitely not for me. They don't even have training!

It seems NO ONE is wanting to give a chance to brand new nurses...

I am in DESPARATE need of money, in huge debt cause I took off work to study for HESI's & NCLEX. credit cards are maxed out.

So I've even called couple hospitals to see if I can work as a Nurses Aid but since I already have my RN license no one wants to hire me for an NA position. I've even called my previous employers but due to my license they don't want to hire me. (I've worked previously in a Radiology center and a Physicians office as a medical secretary)

I don't know what to do. I'm even ready to apply as a cashier or office work but even that seems like I am wasting my time since I won't get more nursing experience.

I am willing to move to a different state but even that costs money to apply for reciprocity. So before I do that I need to make sure that there is a job market where I will be making another license.

Can anyone give me some advice? Is there any state that is more open to brand new nurses? Is anyone getting a job in NJ as a new nurse? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't suggest coming to Colorado. We have zero new grad jobs here. Some of the hospitals aren't even doing their new graduate programs for the summer due to the economy being horrible. I've probably sent out over 50 resumes. I had nurse recruiter look over my resume and she said it was great. However, for the job I needed more experience.

I would try central Texas. We have a great deal of jobs down here..

Southeast Texas is always hiring

I had a question, because I'm a current pre-nursing student who will be applying to an accelerated BSN program this fall. I keep seeing in different posts that some hospitals are hiring BSN graduates only and that some are hiring experienced nurses only, regardless of degrees. Are most of you who aren't finding jobs have ASNs? I ask, so I can prepare myself, as I don't think the economy will turn around by the time I get my license as well.

new grad with BSN and still havent found a job, it's not only ASN.

Specializes in rn.

I know this doesn't help you at this point, but for the readers who are worried about this perhaps also happening to them... Get a job as a nurse aide or other department while in nursing school! The transition to RN is smooth this way. The job fairs that your school has for you when you are a first year nursing student... go, THINK ahead early esp if your plan is to work in a hospital. Most places want you to have experience, so it's a lose lose situation. How does a new nurse get experience and win the job? Think ahead, stay on your toes early... it's really the only way you are guaranteed. To the new grad... hang in there... as soon as you get a job and have two paychecks. Apply for a personal loan from your bank at a low interest. With your new RN salary, they will likely approve you if your credit isn't too bad. Pay off all your debt and go from there. In a few years you will look back and be able to say "I climbed to the top of this mountain from the very bottom". It will be an amazing feeling!

I would seriously consider thinking of trying in NYC (Brookyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx) Try SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn it's a teaching hospital as well. NJ is rough for new nurse right now.
