Is anyone willing to chat in detail about their personal experience at Brookdale's Nursing Program?

I recently graduated from BCC and would be glad to give you any information I can provide.

Specializes in ER, Psych, Corrections, Preop, LTC.

Hi sharihamill22. I have aplplied to Brookdale nursing program LPN to RN challenge. They told me if I passed the NET I could possibly be squeezed in. I passed the NET and I have all pre reqs needed to enter the program done and now I have spoken to two different people telling me I cant enter unil 2010 at the earliest. Any thing I can do to enter this year?

I see that you are an LPN, for an LPN there are no prerequisites at Brookdale, you can challenge the first two semesters and believe it or not you have priority over all of the current students that have to take the prereq's. Can you tell me what happened with your testing challenge, due tho the fact that I know that if you passed the challenge you start the term after you passed.

Right but to enter the challenge I'm being told that it is full to capacity. But I was previously told if I passed the NET that they would try to have me enter the challenge this May. Well when I did just that I was told I am looking at May 2010 entrance. That really left a bad taste in my mouth about this school. I have already passed AP1 AP2 English 1 and 2 Psych Sociology and Chem and Math. I am very upset.:banghead:

The NET is a useless tool it is quite frankly an idiot test and a psychological test. When you are challenging the test the prereq's are also useless you don't need them. Just be sure to call just previous to the start of term in September when the normal challenge time would be (see if you can find out the exact date for either the summer or fall challenge) when the date comes sit outside the testing center and see if someone doesn't show up. If they don't request to go in their place. (I know two people that did this and it worked). It doesn't happen often but it is worth a shot. Persistence is never a bad thing. I hope it works for you.

tHANKS SHARI WHAT SUBJECTS SHOULD I BRUSH UP ON? I KNOW THE LPN TO RN CHALLENGE STARTS THIS MAY.

would you be willing to chat with me about the brookdale nursing program...I am just finishing up my prereqs, and have a few questions about the program.

Mcsprint,

I would tell you for the first semester challenge to just brush up on what you already know. The first test is basic and you already know in your head what must be done, it is mostly geriatric care, they also may include some oncology but again it is basic care. For the second semester test know your pediatrics, maternity and basic sexuality courses also know some your orthopedic content for both tests. Any other questions contact me at [email protected]

Ladii, if you would like to chat with me about Brookdale contact me at [email protected]

Applying and being accepted to BCC was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life, however now than I am almost finished with the program it was worth all the trouble. I was told the waiting list was a year and a half in spring 2007. I called in winter 2007 to check if anything had changed and was told by the admissions staff that I would be accepted in January of 2008. I was thrilled, however my paperwork never showed up. I had a few emails back and forth with the woman in charge of admissions and she denied telling me I was being accepted for that semester and once again stated a year and a half wait list. THE DAY CLASS STARTED, I received a call from the same woman asking me if I was still interested in starting class that day. My baby was four months old at the time and I had to call my husband home from work to watch her because I had not made any other arrangements. It was a pain, but I am glad it all worked out. Another issue I encountered was the counseling office providing me with inconsistent information about transfered classes from other schools. To be honest I am still not entirely confident than I have completed all my general ed classes according to what BCC requires. That being said the nursing instructors are AWESOME, particularly the nursing lab staff. I hear the courses are more difficult than other schools, we started out with around 40 students in my tract and are down to about 20 :scrying: (we still have 2 semesters to go). However, the price is right and I am confident I am getting a good education. For anyone interested in BCC, be patient and advocate for yourself and education. Stay on top of the newest information provided by the school because it changes often and good luck!
