Any tips for new grads looking for NJ employment?

I've recently passed NCLEX and have been applying to jobs, and was wondering how other people in my boat are doing. Have you found that you were able to find employment at hospitals? A couple of my friends have gotten jobs at LTC facilities and nursing homes, but I am not sure if that route is for me.

Thanks!

It can be challenging as a new grad to land that hospital position. I would aggressively apply to different hospitals...if you do not get any traction consider LTC and or nursing home. While working in LTC or a nursing home you can continue to apply and utilize those skills learned to get you to the next step(hospital position). Let me know if you need further assistance.

I am also a new grad in NJ, passed NCLEX in March, and am excited to state that I will begin orientation in a well known hospital in 11 days!!! It is definitely possible by being determined and applying to different hospitals. I just kept a daily check on different hospitals' career sites and applied to positions I thought I could possibly be considered for.

Good luck in your search.

Temmuz,

You've given me some hope for after I graduate . If you don't mind me asking when did you begin looking for jobs? And do you have any prior healthcare experience? I go to Rutgers (formerly UMDNJ) and I have no previous healthcare experience-which has been causing me panic lol I still have a little ways off before I graduate but I always like to plan ahead.

Thanks!!

Hey baileyzt,

I actually completed my ABSN at Rutgers (legacy of UMDNJ). I started looking for jobs after I received my license number which was at the end of March. I had two interviews and two offers right after. I only had experience in the dental field (coding/billing, assistant). I am very excited to start my journey as a nurse this Monday 😃

Hey Temmuz,

That's awesome!! And looks like you're an alum at my school-I'm in the part-time ABSN program í ½í¸Š When did you receive your ATT to test for the Nclex?? Congratulations on the new job!!

I received my ATT about two months after pinning. Our official graduation date was 3 weeks after that which is when everything is sent out to the BON, so a little over one month after the official graduation date. I did pay a visit to the BON to check on my status, I don't know if that affected anything. I gave myself 3 weeks after the ATT before I took the NCLEX and everything just seemed to flow after that.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for all of the info!!

Are you ladies interested in externships? If so, send me a message. There are several hospitals in NJ to apply to.

@SucessDiva I can't send a message, but I am interested in externships. How can I get details?

Hi Success Diva,

I am absolutely interested in an externship in NJ! I can't send you a message, or if I can I'm not quite sure how. I'll keep trying, but could you try messaging me? Thanks!

Hi Ladies,

I get on here intermittently! Sorry for the delay. Saint Barnabas in Livingston, NJ is hiring New RNs for Med-Surg positions. UMDNJ in Newark and JFK in Edison, NJ.
