New grad salary:)

Hi :) i just wanted to ask what is the salary range for new grad here in las vegas?? I applied in a sub acute/rehab facility and the offer was 25/hr? A friend told me who is also a new grad and no experience that in her facilty which is a rehab too that her salary is 30/hr.

In my experience $25 is a little low and $30 is a little high, but that seems to be the range. Hospitals do not necessarily pay more, because they are more in-demand. When I was a new grad, I went from a rehab hospital to a critical care unit and took a pay cut.

in my opinion that would be okay for a starting salary at least you can start building your experience. Ive been checking any hirings for new grads and still havent found one i mean not that i can apply now but that's an opportunity for you. do you have other job offerings though? plus you have to consider that the cost of living in NV is lower than in CA. Goodluck!

I agree with you one of my friend who is based here in nv as well told me its a little low. It is a rehab facility and most of rehab pays 27 for starting. The employer told me that i cant ask and tell others about my salary! That made me suspicious if theyvare paying me right:( im not sure really! Hahahaha

If I may chime in...I would happily take $25/hr as a brand-spanking new nurse with zero experience. I'm graduating in May with my RN. Here in Florida not only are there NO jobs, but the starting pay is around $20 in acute care and not much more or less in rehab. We are flooded with grad nurses here, as well as veteran nurses. I mean literally I feel like us grads are a dime a dozen, no one wants us. So if I were you, not only would I be jumping for joy to have a job in the field in which I just invested three years of my life and about 20~grand in student loan debt, but $25 to start would please me just fine. IMHO the real pay us grads are getting is that coveted experience which will eventually allow us to write our own tickets. Not to be negative, but sometimes acquaintances will one-up you, so don't necessarily believe comparitive info. If you say you're making 25, she'll say she's making 27, you know how stuff like that goes... I realize pay is expected to be higher out west and other areas, but still.. a job and a not so shabby starting pay would have me :woot:!!! Good luck to you in your first nursing job!

I'm shooting for a 28 minimum. The thing the hospitals get most nurses with is the 12 hour shift. Realistically unless you work an extra half a shift or shift during a week you will never going to get to 40 hours. Figure 38 on average with a 12 hour and change shift, 28 = 55k. I feel like I should be making 60k starting but I'll go lower to get a job. I know St Rose starts their nurses new grads at 30+.

Ha, you guys would laugh at mine! Here in middle TN I was offered $18.28/hr! I, of course, had to take it because no one wants new grads here :( I miss Vegas :'(
